About ELMHS

The Early in Life Mental Health Service (ELMHS) provides comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment for infants, children, adolescents, and young people aged 0–18 years and their families across the Southern Region. Our services include inpatient care during times of crisis, community-based (outpatient) treatment, group programs, family therapy, and specialist services

About the Children's Health and Wellbeing Local
The Children's Health and Wellbeing Local is a collaborative initiative that integrates community health, mental health, and family support services. It offers mental health consultations, assessments, and treatments for infants and children (0–11 years) and their families in the South-Eastern region of Victoria.

Designed as a central, one-stop location for mental health and wellbeing, this service enables Victorian families to access a wide range of specialist medical and allied health services, including paediatricians, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech pathologists, and parenting support.

The Local operates in partnership with the Early in Life Mental Health Service (ELMHS), Monash Children’s Hospital, and the Child and Family Program at Monash Health Community. As the first service of its kind, it has been co-designed with local communities, people with lived experience, and service providers—including Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations—to ensure services are tailored to local needs and build on existing capacity.

“It’s a chance for us to change the system and do things differently to make measurable change in children’s lives. It will allow us to work together, innovatively, to improve the health and wellbeing of children and families.”
— Dr. Victoria McKay, Paediatrician
