Brief Description:
Deliver specialised Music Therapy services to support patients in healthcare settings, using music to enhance coping, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional and physical well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical care through evidence-based Music Therapy interventions.
  • Support and mentor students and early-career Music Therapists.
  • Contribute to service development through education, quality improvement, and research.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient and family experiences.

About the Role: 

You will be responsible for delivering high quality, evidence-based Music Therapy interventions to support to paediatric and/or neonatal patients and their families. As an integral part of the Monash Children's Music Therapy service, you will work collaboratively across various settings, including acute care, oncology, and neonatal services, to provide holistic and developmentally appropriate care. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide evidence-based music therapy assessment, planning, interventions for patients and their families 

  • Use clinical reasoning to be able to independently prioritise and triage referrals with a high-demand caseload and clinical setting 

  • Deliver a high standard of documentation and reporting 

  • Provide expert Music Therapy interventions to support the emotional, cognitive, developmental, and physical well-being of patients. 

  • Use music-based strategies to promote relaxation, pain management, procedural support, and coping skills for patients and families. 

  • Collaborate and work well within multidisciplinary teams and attend meetings or rounds as required to the specific clinical area; communicating effectively with staff to establish and maintain collaborative professional networks and partnerships 

  • Contribute to service development through providing clinical supervision to Grade 1 clinicians, student supervision or mentoring, engaging in education initiatives, and quality improvement projects. 

We are recruiting for:

  • Position 1: Join our team as a Music Therapist on a part time (45.6 hrs per fortnight) ongoing position to work at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton.  

This role is predominantly based in paediatric oncology, with scope to work across other areas of paediatrics. 

  • Position 2: Join our team as a Music Therapist on a part time (38hrs per fortnight) ongoing position to work at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton and Casey Hospital, Berwick.  

This role is predominantly based in Monash Newborn, including Special Care Nursery (SCN) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) across both sites, with scope to work across other areas of paediatrics.

What you need: 

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Music Therapy from an approved training course 

  • Eligible for current membership and registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Inc. 

  • Current ARIA Music Therapist Copyright & Reproduction licence
