About the Role
Under the direct supervision of the Consultant, the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NPP) is required to provide clinical care for infants under the care of Monash Newborn, delivering the highest standard of care to infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) Special Care Nursery (SCN) and postnatal wards. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner role is pivotal within Monash Newborn to support standardisation of practice across the medical and nursing teams, contribution to research and quality improvement and provide neonatal expertise.
- Patient assessment and care co-ordination and support
- Gain experience in medical and surgical neonatal care, build clinical decision making skills, and provide leadership, teaching and support to the Nursing and Medical team
- NNP will work on a rotating roster that provides experience in the NICU, SCN, Postnatal Wards and Outpatient areas
- Role modelling and staff engagement through ongoing communication within the team
About Us
Across 4 sites of Monash Health, Monash Newborn provides neonatal services to support over 9,000 births a year and is responsible for the provision of neonatal services for Monash Health within the Monash Children’s Hospital Clayton, Dandenong, Casey and Sandringham campuses, functioning together as a single integrated service with a hierarchy of complexity. About 4,500 babies are born each year at Clayton to a selected high-risk maternity population, while lower risk mothers are managed at Dandenong, Casey and Sandringham Hospitals, which have about 2,500 births at each site each year respectively.
The neonatal nursery in Monash Children’s Hospital has a combined neonatal intensive care and special care capacity of 64 cots. Supported by a comprehensive range of paediatric specialty services at Monash Children’s, the neonatal service is able to provide the full range of medical and surgical care of the newborn with the exception only of ECMO and cardiac surgery.
Monash Newborn’s neonatal nurseries on the Dandenong, Sandringham and Casey campuses currently have a total of 3 beds, 6 beds and 20 beds respectively.
About You
We currently have an opportunity for a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner candidate to join our team at Monash Newborn at our Clayton Campus, Monash Childern's Hospital. With your passion towards neonates and your caring and engaging manner, you will play a pivotal role in Patient and family centred care. Using your excellent communication skills, you will work closely with a varied team of Health professionals across Monash Health with the sole purpose of delivering exceptional critical care at all times. You have:
- Outstanding communication, stakeholder engagement and problem resolution skills
- Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively consult to deliver outcomes
- Flexibility to work across a 24/7 roster
- Ideally leadership and management experience in Neonatal Nursing
- Proactive in supporting colleagues at all levels as well as mentoring others
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:
Candidate:
- A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience working in a neonatal unit
- A post graduate certificate (or equivalent) in neonatal nursing
- A commitment to undertake the Masters of Advanced Nursing Practice (Nurse Practitioner) in August 2026, or February 2027.
