About the Role
Are you a dedicated and dynamic Occupational Therapist with a passion for acute patient care and OT service delivery? We currently have a Grade 2 full time permanent ongoing position available in our acute neurosciences stream at MMC Clayton. This position sits within our large supportive acute service, primarily delivering Occupational Therapy across Monash Medical Centre, and Moorabbin or Victorian heart Hospital (VHH) when required.
This is a full time, ongoing position where duties will include:
- Daily caseload management in conjunction with the Grade 3’s
- Provision of clinical service at a competent and autonomous level.
- Support of Grade 1 and AHA staff with clinical support and oversight.
- Involvement in quality improvement activities, either site-based or cross-site.
- Supported involvement in recruitment activities for Grade 1 and AHA staff.
- Maintaining communication within the occupational therapy and multi-disciplinary teams day-to-day matters affecting staff and/or clinical, ward happenings.
- The expected clinical to non-clinical ratio is approximately 60:40.
You will work collaboratively with inclusive and passionate occupational therapy and allied health staff to provide excellent, evidence-based care for patients and their families/carers across neurosciences stream; stroke, neurology and neurosurgery. This role is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team providing high quality assessments and intervention for patients within a fast-paced environment.
About Us
The Allied Health Adult Inpatient Care (AHAIC) Program provides all bed-based allied health services (excluding Monash Children’s Hospital and Mental Health) at Casey, Dandenong, Moorabbin and the Victorian Heart Hospitals as well as at Monash Medical Centre Clayton, the Kingston Centre and Jessie McPherson Private Hospital.
The Program’s clinicians work across in-patient hospital wards (acute to sub-acute), emergency departments, Multidisciplinary and Allied Health Specialist Consulting clinics. The AHAIC Program is also responsible for the Equipment Services.
About You
Occupational Therapist with clinical experience in acute occupational therapy, particularly neurosciences. You will have the opportunity to work alongside other experienced and team-focused clinicians. The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate leadership qualities within OT and multidisciplinary teams
- Implement clear communication and advocate for best care for the patient
- Engage patients in the participation of their treatment journey
- Acknowledge responsibility for own learning
- Collaborate with others in the development of department resources and research pursuits
What you need:
- Experience in providing a high quality clinical service to patients in the acute hospital setting
- Passion for enhancing patient experiences and facilitation of occupational performance;
- Demonstrated skill in teaching, supervision and promoting the growth and development of staff;
- An aptitude for ongoing learning and personal professional development;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- A keen interest in evidence-based practice, clinical inquiry, research and service improvement.
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapist or Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or equivalent.
Eligibility for membership of relevant professional association and current Occupational Therapy AHPRA registration are requirement for this role.
