About the Role:
Join our team as a Pharmacist – Mental Health Training Program on a full-time ongoing role working across multiple Monash Health sites.
The Mental Health Pharmacist Training Program aims to:
- Provide a structured learning, development and support program to grow the diversity and number of allied health clinicians capable of providing high quality care and support for Victorians with mental illness and psychological distress and their families, carers and supporters
- Contribute to building a diverse and innovative mental health and wellbeing workforce
- Create diverse, positive and supported career opportunities for allied health clinicians to enter into and develop within the mental health and wellbeing workforce
- The program is underpinned by 4 pillars: Growth learning | Reflective practice | Supervision | Self-care
This is a two year robust training program, working in Mental Health alongside a skilled allied health workforce. On completion of the program, you will continue as part of the Monash Health Pharmacy team. There will be opportunities to access our internal grade review process to acknowledge your skills and experience level.
The program will provide opportunities to rotate within the Mental Health pharmacy teams across Monash Medical Centre, Kingston Hospital and Casey Hospital to enable experiences across the lifespan including paediatrics, youth, adult emergency and geriatric mental health. You will have a dedicated Mental Health clinical educator pharmacist for the duration of the program to support your learning experience. To further support your learning journey you will be linked with graduates from the multidisciplinary team who are undertaking the Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program through professional development days and discovery days.
You will be supported by the Mental Health Pharmacy Team Leader and our dedicated, experienced Mental Health clinical educator pharmacist for the duration of the program. Together with your team leader, you will complete the program to support your progression in the area of Mental Health and support your ongoing development in leadership, education and research.
In this important role you will:
- Provide best practice pharmacy services and exceptional patient-centred care through the provision of medicines and medication advice safely and professionally to a variety of clients in a variety of mental health settings
- Provide pharmacy services as part of pharmacy and interprofessional teams in a range of pharmacy practice settings
- Collaborate with the wider interprofessional team to strengthen education, innovation and service delivery
- Grow your research experience and skills through developing and leading a quality improvement research project with the support of your supervisors, and submit your manuscript for publication
- Actively participate in pharmacy and multidisciplinary committees, review and develop guidelines, contribute to the design and delivery of education sessions and develop a workplace program.
- Further enhance your Mental Health knowledge with attendance at conferences and/or seminars every year
Pharmacists work an 8-hour shift per day, Monday to Friday, plus some rostered overtime including weekends, late shift and public holidays.

About You:
You are a Hospital Pharmacist, enthusiastic to develop your practice in Mental Health and ready to take the next step in your career. You are a role model, thrive working in a dynamic, environment and are truly passionate about delivering best practice pharmacy services to all patients, carers and health care professionals.
You can also demonstrate:
- Clinical pharmacy experience (minimum 1-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience)
- Commitment to continued professional development and education
- Current AHPRA registration as a Pharmacist
