About the Department / Program

Monash Health Pharmacy delivers comprehensive medication management services across a large, complex health network, supporting safe, high-quality and patient-centred care.

 

The Formulary and Procurement team plays a key role in ensuring the safe, equitable and cost-effective use of medicines across the organisation. The team oversees formulary management, medicines access programs, procurement strategies and supply continuity, working closely with clinical services, governance committees and external partners to optimise medication use.

 

About the Role

As the Pharmacist Team Leader – Formulary & Procurement, you will work across Monash Health sites on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term basis. Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Director of Pharmacy – Formulary & Business Development, you will work closely with the Pharmacy Leadership Team and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to drive high-quality medication management practices across the organisation.

 

In this key leadership role you will shape medication formulary management, procurement strategy and medicines governance across one of Australia's largest public health services.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced hospital pharmacist to lead strategic initiatives that support safe, equitable and sustainable access to medicines across Monash Health.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the management and governance of the Monash Health Medication Formulary, including Single Patient Use, Medicines Access Programs, Special Access Scheme applications and medicines shortage management
  • Ensuring medicines use aligns with evidence-based practice, medication safety standards, equity of access and financial sustainability
  • Supporting clinical teams to comply with formulary and governance processes
  • Driving procurement initiatives aligned with the Pharmacy Procurement Plan and HealthShare Victoria contracts
  • Maintaining effective stock control to support both financial performance and service delivery
  • Collaborating with Quality Use of Medicines and Pharmacy Leadership teams to optimise medicine selection and use
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and professional development to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement

This role requires flexibility to work across Monash Health sites and contribute to broader pharmacy service activities as required.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in building, coaching and developing high-performing teams
  • Extensive hospital pharmacy experience, ideally with exposure to formulary management, procurement and medicines governance
  • Strong understanding of Quality Use of Medicines principles and medication safety 
  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills
  • Highly developed analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions in complex environments
  • Proven ability to lead change, drive service improvements and support financially sustainable healthcare outcomes

 

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Relevant hospital pharmacy experience
  • Evidence of required employment screenings and immunisations in line with Monash Health policy
