About the role:
Your Path to Midwifery Excellence: Monash Health offers two distinct pathways to support your clinical learning:
Postgraduate Midwifery Employment Program
Join our team as a Registered Nurse / Student Midwife while completing your postgraduate diploma. In this role, you will:
- Be employed part-time in maternity (0.6 EFT, 3 days/week) on a fixed-term contract for 18 months, working a rotating roster across all clinical shifts with rotations to different Monash Health sites.
- Gain practical experience in midwifery care as part of a multidisciplinary team providing care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period, including support for women and babies with complex health needs.
- Benefit from supernumerary time at the start of the program to ensure you are well-supported, with ongoing clinical support facilitated by the Midwifery education teams across all sites.
- Employment opportunities following course completion and successful registration as a Midwife will be subject to application and available vacancies
Clinical Postgraduate Midwifery Fellowship (Unpaid) program
Alternatively, students may choose to complete their studies in a flexible wholly supernumerary (unpaid) capacity with all clinical placements supported by Monash Health in a fellowship model.
This option includes:
- Structured clinical placements to meet university requirements, providing practical experiences in midwifery care without employment obligations. Work with the multidisciplinary team providing care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period, including support for women and babies with complex health needs.
- Full access to clinical support from Midwifery Education teams across all Monash Health sites
- Dedicated orientation and supervision to support your learning, as well as rotations through different Monash Health sites to provide a variety of opportunities for learning.
- Employment opportunities following course completion and successful registration as a Midwife will be subject to application and available vacancies

About You
You have been developing your clinical skills as a Registered Nurse within an acute setting and are looking to grow your career as a Registered Midwife showing your commitment and passion for Women Centred Care. To ensure your success in this role, you will have the following demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge:
- Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) registration as a Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate.
- Minimum of 12 months acute nursing experience.
- Completion of a Graduate program is desirable with rotations in acute areas.
- Meet the enrolment requirements for Deakin University.
- Outstanding communication and time management skills coupled with delivering holistic women and family centred care
