About Us
Secure Extended Care Unit (Unit 4) is a 50 bed Inpatient Unit based at Dandenong Hospital. SECU is a recovery based mental health service that works with various health services. It requires a clinician that is holds an understanding of the recovery model, has an ability to support an engaging group program and be able to work with a complex client group. SECUs provide medium to long-term inpatient treatment and rehabilitation for people who have unremitting and severe symptoms of mental illness or disorder with an associated significant disturbance in behaviour that preclude their living in a less restricted environment. SECUs represent the highest level of care on the continuum of mental health services and provide extended clinical treatment, supervision and support for those whose needs cannot be met adequately by other available programs and services.
About the Role
The Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) at Monash Health provides contemporary, high-quality, interdisciplinary secure extended care and treatment services for consumers with enduring psychiatric conditions that are unable to receive care in a less restrictive environment. Consumers are engaged in targeted treatment and rehabilitation programs that maximise individual functioning, reduce the barriers to recovery, and promote return to community living where possible. The SECU psychologist provides psychological assessments and treatments to consumers of SECU and supports the work of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The psychologist provides primary and secondary consultation with the team and other relevant stakeholders regarding the mental health issues of consumers in the service. The position can also include providing mentoring and support to post-graduate psychology students.
