Nuclear Medicine Specialist 

We are accepting applications from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the position of Consultant Nuclear Medicine Specialist with Monash Health Imaging. Applicants must hold Fellowship to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists or Fellowship of Royal Australian College of Physicians and be eligible for Fellowship of the Australian Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialists.  

 

About Radiology

Radiology at Monash Health incorporates a full range of services including CT, US, MRI, DEXA, PET, Nuclear Medicine, X-Ray, OPG, Mammography, Fluoroscopy and Interventional and Therapeutic imaging services at the Monash Medical Centre, Monash Children’s Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Casey Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Victorian Heart Hospital, Kingston Centre, and the Pakenham Health Centre. Radiology also supports the Monash University Biomedical Imaging site including MRI and PET MRI. The service provides over 365,000 imaging examinations per year across all sites, currently employs approximately 600 EFT and has a gross operating budget in excess of $100M.  

The Radiology program clearly defines its mission as the delivery of leading edge, evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services and research and education that meets the needs of our community and employees. Our proposed vision is to relentlessly pursue excellence, be a beacon within imaging and be the prime provider and destination of choice for our community, referrers, researchers, educational institutions, employees and students.

Nuclear Medicine, PET and BMD at Monash Health is one of the largest public hospital subspecialty units of its kind in Australia, with a catchment area within the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne of over 2 million. We have 2 PET scanners (Moorabbin Hospital), 6 gamma cameras (including 4 SPECT-CT units) across 4 hospital sites and 2 BMD machines (MMC Clayton). 
We are now looking to appoint a part-time Nuclear Medicine Specialist to fulfill the clinical needs of the department.  

  

About the Role

The Consultant Specialist will:

  • Assist the Program Director in providing a high-quality imaging service across all Monash Health Imaging sites. 
  • Contribute to the Monash Health Imaging service, participating in Nuclear Medicine as the primary subspecialty, which includes PET and BMD reporting.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment for Monash Imaging registrars/fellows.
  • Support research & education initiatives within Monash Health.
  • Participate in the general on-call roster as appropriate.
  • Be willing to upskill as required by the department

What you need 
Essential:

  • Registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with a current annual practicing certificate.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) or Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) including maintenance of CPD and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration. 
  • Eligible for Fellowship of the Australian Association Nuclear Medicine Specialist (current membership status is preferred)
  • Radiation Use Licence for Nuclear Medicine
  • High level of competence in oncology imaging
  • Must be available to work on Wednesdays 

Desirable but not essential:

  • BMD reporting experience
  • Prior participation in novel PET (i.e. Non-FDG tracer) clinical trial reporting and Lu-177 therapies
  • Prior experience in NM trainee or Radiology trainee supervision
  • Prior experience working at Monash Imaging/ NM

 

Note: All applicants must be awarded Scope of Clinical Practice by the Monash Health Credentialing committee. Information presented for application will be presented to the committee during the selection process, and all appointments are subject to maintenance of SoP within the clinical services capability framework in the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. This process must be completed prior to offer of employment.

Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
