About the Role 

Join Aviary ward as a Registered Nurse in one of the following roles working across a 24/7 rotational roster, at Monash Children’s Hospital. 

• Permanent ongoing position 0.8EFT   
• Fixed term (parental leave cover till September 2025) position 0.8 EFT 

Aviary is a ward where you will grow your nursing skills across both acute and sub-acute specialties, and where you see variety in the patients and families you care for. 

• Across our Neurology cohort, you will gain experience with seizure management, conditions such as transverse myelitis and Guillain-Barre syndrome and genetic and metabolic disorders 
• Our rehabilitation cohort consists of traumatic brain injury, functional neurological disorders and post orthopaedic surgery patients 
• Our adolescent patients are often those with eating disorders, overdoses or adolescent general medical concerns 

Working across these diverse patient cohorts you will be there to witness the magic moments with your patients, whether it be seeing them sit or walk again, develop a healthier relationship with food or just smile when things become that little bit easier for them, and you will be working as part of team whose culture is one of support in what can sometimes be a challenging, but highly rewarding, unit.     

About Us 

Aviary Ward at Monash Children’s Hospital is a 28 bed unit specialising in Neurology, Adolescent and Rehabilitation patients. We are a unique ward, caring for patients with both acute and sub-acute presentations, allowing for continual development across both areas of nursing. Our patients may be with us as they require extensive rehabilitation, they may be presenting with eating disorders and/or struggling with mental health concerns or they are patients who require care for neurological based conditions.  

About you 

We are seeking nurses who have a passion for supporting our varied patient cohort, in particular adolescent mental health.  You are a naturally compassionate and empathetic person who can relate to younger patients, adolescent patients and family members, while remaining professional at all times.  You remain calm and collected, and you are confident in your abilities to manage heightened situations and deteriorating patients.  While previous Paediatrics experience is highly regarded, if you have recent acute nursing experience and a true desire to improve the lives of children and adolescents, we encourage you to apply!    

You will need to demonstrate: 

• A willingness to continue to learn to ensure you always deliver a high standard of evidence based nursing care 
• A keen interest in quality improvement and a willingness to take on projects to improve our ward 
• Sound clinical judgement in critical situations, and the ability to remain calm in such situations 
• An understanding of the importance of family centred care, and an ability to build relationships with Paediatric patients 
• That you enjoy working in an area that can be challenging, but at the end of the day is highly rewarding 
• Must have recent acute Nursing experience, ideally in a hospital setting 
• Must have current AHPRA registration 
• Must be available to work a rotating 24/7 roster 
• A desire to excel in Paediatric Nursing
