About the Role:

Join our team as a Registered Nurse in Ward 54 (Neuroscience ward) at Monash Medical Centre – Clayton. This role requires you to work on a seven-day rotating roster across all shifts.

We have multiple ongoing part-time positions available in the ward.

Being part of one of 2 Stroke referral centres for the state, you will be exposed to the miracle of science at its best, along with some surgical procedures that will see your nursing knowledge and clinical skill and competence grow incredibly.

 

  • You will see a range of neurological disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis and Guillain-Barre syndrome, and will be involved in seizure care and management for your patients
  • You will care for Stroke patients, with varying levels of acuity, and have involvement in TPA medication, clot retrievals and patient management from admission through to discharge
  • Exposure to all things Neurosurgery including spinal, pituitary and brain surgery patients, intracranial bleeds and exposure to EVDs

 

Growth and education for our nursing team is a key focus on Ward 54. We encourage our staff to further their knowledge in this niche are of nursing through the support of Post Graduate studies and career advancement into clinical specialist roles within the unit. 

We have a dedicated education team on the ward allowing our team easy access to support and resources when they need, and we practice a Team Nursing model of care allowing for mentoring and peer to peer support.   

 

About Us:

 

Ward 54 is one of two specialised Neuroscience facilities across Victoria, providing quality nursing care in a highly acute setting for patients with complex medical needs. 

 

We are an experienced multidisciplinary team working toward the best outcomes for our patients. We have a 46-bed unit with a primary focus on Neurosurgery, Neurology and Stroke patients and a 10 bed HDU and a single bed video EEG.

 

About You:

Ours is a ward where you will be encouraged to further develop your skills, so a desire to excel and continue to learn will see you succeed!  You will have acute nursing experience and a keen interest in developing, or furthering your career in this exciting space.

 

Ward 54 is a busy ward and you will be someone who thrives in a fast paced and ever changing environment. You lead by example and always put 100% into the care of your patients, advocating for them and working towards positive clinical outcomes. Your communication skills are second to none, and you actively role model our Monash values.

  • You will demonstrate strong assessment skills and know how to manage the deteriorating patient  
  • You are able to problem solve and think critically in all situations
  • You enjoy working as part of a large multidisciplinary team, and team work and collaboration comes naturally to you
  • The opportunity for ongoing support and education excites you, with Post Graduate studies encouraged

 

What you need:

  • Recent RN experience in an acute setting
  • A desire to grow your career in Neurosciences

We know the level of acuity on our ward is high and that is why health and wellbeing is a top priority on our ward 54; so much so, our Nurse Manager has been recognised for his focus on wellbeing, connection and support in nursing/midwifery at Monash Health!  A range of additional therapies will be introduced to the unit including Pet and Music Therapy and we have introduced Funky Scrubs day everyday!

  • We have a strong focus on debriefing and mental health for our team, and are committed to ensuring the health and safety of both our nurses and our patients
  • We support further study in the field of Neurosciences, with courses available on the ward and also at a Post Graduate level
