About our Consultation and Liaison Service
The Consultation Liaison (CL) is a specialist psychiatry service that provides clinical psychiatry consultation and support to general and medical wards across the Monash Health Hospital sites.
The CL service is staffed by consultant psychiatrists, psychiatry registrars, senior nursing staff and psychologists. Our CL clinicians provide comprehensive specialist mental health assessments, provision of a diagnostic formulation, short-term in-hospital care and advice about treatment.
This team will see people over the age of 18 years who are in a mental health crisis, if they have a pre-existing mental illness or if there are other concerns or questions about their mental health. Our clinicians also provide ongoing education for staff in identifying, assessing and managing people who are experiencing issues with their mental health and provide advice about mental health follow-up for when people are discharged from hospital.
The consultation liaison (CL) psychologist delivers psychological assessments and interventions to consumers, particularly those with chronic and/or complex issues who are admitted to a medical ward. The psychologist provides both acute crisis support along with continuing care.
