Research Officer  - MCHRI (Monash Centre for Health Research & Implementation), Monash Medical Centre Clayton 

  • Fixed-Term Part time (0.6 – 0.8FTE, 22.8 – 30.4 hours per week)
  • Fixed Term Dates: Late June/July 2026 - July 2027 (5–year position with annual contract renewal)
  • Salary Range p/a: HS3 

 

Position Summary:  

We seek to fill a vital position to support the research program initiative across multiple work packages. This position has a primary role in co-design, qualitative and quantitative research planning, conduct and analysis throughout the five-year program. Accordingly, this role requires an experienced researcher and strategic thinker with demonstrated background in mixed methods research, consumer and community involvement methodologies, relationship-building and interpersonal skills, as well as ability to contribute to complex implementation research initiatives. 

Working with the multidisciplinary project team, the Research Officer will provide vital and comprehensive research support across the spectrum of conceptualisation through project closure and translation. This includes supporting consumer engagement activities, co-design workshops, qualitative data collection and analysis, quantitative data management and analysis support, ethics coordination, stakeholder engagement, and implementation trial activities. Data collection using qualitative methods (semi-structured interviews, focus groups, thematic analysis) and quantitative methods (survey administration, data extraction, statistical support) are integral to this role, requiring an experienced, efficient and effective researcher. 

The Research Officer works directly with the Co-leads and Project Manager of the program. The Research Assistant will develop and implement research processes to support achievement of program’s objectives and enhance our position as a leading centre for implementation research and translation in women's health. 

 

About Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI), School of Public Health, Monash University and Monash Health 

MCHRI sits under the Facility of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. Established in 2005, MCHRI has grown from 3 to 180 staff and students. This is a partnership centre across Monash University and Monash Health and provides an implementation laboratory for research and translation embedded and integrated into healthcare. MCHRI works with broader reach across Monash Partners Academic Health Science Centre, nationally and internationally in our research and translation endeavours. Our vision is to create, synthesise, implement and translate clinical, health care and public health knowledge, underpinned by cross sector end user engagement, to deliver health impact. MCHRI has led organisational and individual leadership support programs in healthcare for nearly a decade.  

 

About the Role 

The Research Officer is to provide comprehensive research support across qualitative and quantitative methodologies to enable effective delivery of the initiative's objectives; to support research activities across multiple work packages, ensuring high-quality data collection, analysis and reporting that contributes to evidence-based PCOS pregnancy care improvement. Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Research Support:
    • Assist with research protocol development, ethics applications and amendments. 
    • Design and coordinate survey instruments and semi-structured interview schedules. 
    • Conduct qualitative data collection including interviews and focus groups with women with PCOS, healthcare providers and stakeholders, and undertake thematic analysis. 
    • Support quantitative data collection, management, quality assurance and cleaning for registry development and implementation trial activities across multiple sites. 
    • Provide implementation trial support including patient recruitment, screening, intervention fidelity monitoring and coordination across implementation sites. 
    • Contribute to preparation of research outputs including reports, presentations and manuscripts.
  • Consumer and Community Involvement:
    • Coordinate consumer engagement activities including Consumer Advisory Committee meetings, training sessions, and involvement in research processes. 
    • Support recruitment and coordination of consumer representatives from diverse backgrounds. 
    • Facilitate authentic partnership approaches aligned with NHMRC consumer and community involvement principles. 
    • Assist in development of consumer-facing resources including educational materials and shared decision-making tools.  
    • Support co-design workshops and consensus processes for model of care development and patient resource creation.
  • Project Coordination and Administration:
    • Coordinate research documentation including ethics applications, participant information sheets and consent forms.
    • Maintain systematic filing systems for research data, ensuring compliance with privacy, confidentiality and data management protocols.
    • Support project reporting requirements including progress reports, milestone documentation and stakeholder communications.
    • Assist with organisation of stakeholder meetings, workshops and dissemination events. 

 

About You:

  • A University qualification in health, women’s health, public health or a related field.  
  • Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods and data analysis.  
  • Experience in project management and coordination  
  • Demonstrated ability in academic writing and manuscript production.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a research or professional environment to optimise the health outcomes of participants and/or patients.
  • Experience and excellent understanding of the principles, complexities and issues around research.
  • Project management experience and understanding of the complexity of large-scale projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage diverse stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with research participants in a supportive, evidence-based manner. 
  • Proficiency in research platforms including NVivo, Endnote and survey platforms (Qualtrics) desirable.
