About the Role & You

Hours: Full Time Fixed

Classification: Grade 1 Medical Scientist
The successful candidate will be required to participate in staff rotations, overtime and on call & out of hours rosters. Operational hours of the laboratory are 05:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and 06:00 - 14:30 Saturday. Participate in self-education activities, internal & external training courses, and in clinical and scientific meetings (including speaking). You must be able to perform tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:

Receipt and acceptance of specimen(s) into the laboratory for testing.

Prepare paraffin sections of surgical and necropsy specimens;

Perform and assist with the specimen cut up; Experience or desire to learn complex cut-up considered an advantage (Training provided)

Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;

Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;

Attendance at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling

Equipment maintenance as rostered
-
Other duties as directed.
