About the Department / Program
Monash Health Pathology is an integral part of Monash Health. It is the largest public provider of Pathology services in the state and currently operates 6 laboratories. The largest of these is located at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton, with additional laboratories located at the Dandenong, Moorabbin, Casey, Victorian Heart Hospital and Wonthaggi Hospitals. There is currently 18 collection locations based within the hospital sites and community settings. Services are provided to the Public and Private sectors, and other laboratory services.
You will be joining Monash Health at an exciting time as we work in partnership with Alfred Health to be the premier shared public pathology service in Victoria. As a member of the pathology team you will be helping shape the direction of the partnership.
About the Role
Join our team as a Grade 1 Medical Scientist (RX1-RX7) on a full time ongoing basis, to work at Monash Medical Centre based at Clayton. In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of the Anatomical Principal Scientist and working with the broader histology team.
We have a combination of fixed term contract and maternity leave positions each 76hrs F/N + ADO running until February and July 2027 respectively.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in staff rotations, overtime and on call & out of hour rosters as directed. Operational hours of the laboratory are 05:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and 06:00 - 14:30 Saturday. You must be able to perform tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:
- Perform and assist with the specimen cut up;
- Embed and section of biopsy material for diagnostic and necropsy specimens;
- Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;
- Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;
- Assist at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling;
- Assist with a range of mortuary duties;
- Other duties as directed.
About You
To be successful in this healthcare role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:
- Experience in routine histology
- Experience in specialised histology including surgical cut-up, special stains and immunohistochemistry
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment
Mandatory requirements of the role - qualifications, licences, memberships,
- Bachelor degree from an AIMS (Australian Institute of Medical Science) course
- Alternatively, Graduate membership of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS)
- Working with Children Check
