About the Monash Adult Sleep Service 

The Monash adult sleep service consists of a 6 bed laboratory located at Monash Medical Centre Clayton, and a 3 bed laboratory located at Dandenong hospital.  The adult sleep laboratories operate 6 nights per week from Sunday through to Friday night and offers the following shifts: 

  • Setup shift Clayton lab: 5.00pm to 10.00pm 

  • Setup shift Dandenong lab: 6pm to 10pm 

  • Night shift (all labs): 9.30pm to 7.30am  

 

About the Role 

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and professional Grade 1 or 2 (dependent upon experience per the EBA rules) Sleep Scientist to join our team across both the Clayton and Dandenong sites. This permanent part time position consists of the following shifts: 

  • Wednesday weekly Setup shift at the Clayton site 5pm – 10pm 

  • Every second Friday Setup shift at the Clayton site 5pm-10pm

However, there is opportunity to pick up additional setup and night shifts on an ad hoc basis across the Clayton and Dandenong sites. 

This position reports to the Chief and Deputy Chief Sleep Scientists, and your duties will involve all aspects of sleep study preparation, recording and overnight monitoring of in lab and home based sleep studies. Sleep studies will include routine diagnostic PSG and CPAP titration; oxygen titration, transcutaneous CO2 monitoring, and complex ventilation studies.  You will also be required to attend regular in-service educational meetings as part of this role and maintain all mandatory training requirements.  

As part of this role, we also offer excellent professional development opportunities, including supporting applications for relevant post graduate study, preparation for the RPSGT exam, registration with the ACCP, participation in departmental research activities and attendance at educational meetings and conferences.  

  

About You 

To be successful in this role you will have: 

Essential: 

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent with a physiology/biomedical major 

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team 

  • Ability to work autonomously with an analytical approach to troubleshooting 

  • Self-motivated and flexible 

  • Eligibility for registration with the ACCP 

Desirable: 

  • Experience working within a NATA accredited sleep laboratory 

  • Willingness and ability to work across both setup and night shifts 

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential and/or postgraduate study in sleep medicine/science 

  • Registration with the ACCP as a Clinical Physiologist (Sleep) Level 2 

  • Experience with complex ventilation studies 

  • Experience with Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) sampling
