About Casual Employment  

Casual employment offers flexibility for both employees and employers. As a casual employee:  

  • There is no firm advance commitment to ongoing work. You can accept or decline shifts offered.  

  • You receive a casual loading or specific casual pay rate under an award, registered agreement, or employment contract.  

  • Casual employees remain casual until their status changes through:  

    • Transition to permanent employment under the National Employment Standards (NES), an award, enterprise agreement, or Fair Work Commission order.  

    • Accepting an alternative employment offer.  

  • The Casual Employment Information Statement (CEIS) produced by Fair Work can be found here

  • Casual employees retain the right to request flexible work arrangements in accordance with the relevant Enterprise Agreement  

  

About Monash Health Bureau  

The Monash Health Bureau (MHB) team is responsible for the Casual Bank and Nursing Permanent Pool and we support employees to work casually across the organisation. Monash Health Bureau casual bank includes nurses, midwives, support services, allied health and security employees. Every day, we help allocate over 450 shifts across our locations in south-east Melbourne, including Monash Medical Centre, Monash Children’s Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Casey Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Victorian Heart Hospital, Kingston Centre, Cranbourne Centre, Cranbourne Community Hospital, and an extensive network of rehabilitation, aged care, community health and mental health facilities.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must:  

  • Complete probity checks: Two (2) References including current Manager, Employee Working with Children Check, Right to Work in Australia  

  • Be available to work a minimum of (2) shifts per month, and accept shifts offered using the electronic allocation system  

Current Monash Health Employees should ensure:  

  • All Monash Health mandatory training is completed and up to date   

  • Targeted Training is completed and up to date (relevant to the areas selected for casual work)  

  • 'Give me 5' (performance review) completed within the last 10 months  

Applicants must provide their preferred commencement date for casual employment, which must be no less than 4 weeks from the date of application. Fast track applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
