Senior Mechanical Engineer

Drive innovation in healthcare infrastructure at Victoria’s largest public health service.

 

Monash Health is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, optimisation, and lifecycle planning of critical healthcare infrastructure and building services across our vast network. This role offers the opportunity to influence strategic asset management, enhance sustainability, and ensure engineering excellence in some of the most complex hospital environments in the state.

You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality solutions for building services including HVAC, medical gases, mechanical systems, and hydraulics—ensuring they are sustainable, efficient, and compliant.

 

This is a Full Time Position based at Monash Medical Centre Clayton

 

Your Impact

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

 

  • Lead the development of strategic asset management plans that support full asset lifecycle performance and cost efficiency.
  • Design long-term engineering solutions for complex systems and drive sustainable, emissions-reducing initiatives.
  • Provide expert technical advice across capital project delivery and asset renewal initiatives.
  • Support Facilities Operations teams with infrastructure planning, optimisation, and compliance.
  • Oversee design development, specifications, contractor engagement, and on-site inspections.
 

About You

 

You’re an accomplished engineering professional with deep experience in healthcare or building services projects. You’re a clear communicator and creative problem-solver who thrives on leading complex infrastructure planning while mentoring and collaborating with others.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of experience
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards it
  • Strong understanding of hospital building systems and services
  • Business or project management qualifications (desirable)

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Extensive experience in HVAC, medical gas systems, and hydraulic/mechanical building services
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations, Essential Safety Measures, Australian Standards, and OHS
  • Proficiency with Building Management Systems (e.g., Schneider, Johnson Controls)
  • Strong understanding of the Asset Management Accountability Framework (AMAF)
  • High-level stakeholder engagement and contract management expertise
  • Proficient in design documentation, calculations, and reporting
  • Strong digital skills, including MS Office and asset databases (e.g., AIMS, CMMS)
