About the Role:

Join our team as a Senior Mental Health Clinician - Paediatric Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) on a full time, ongoing basis. This position is to work at Monash Medical Centre based at Clayton, within the MCH Emergency Department. We welcome applications from all Allied Health, Psychology and Nursing disciplines. 

 

The Paediatric EPS Senior position is a specialist clinical mental health role. The Paed EPS Team will provide responsive, timely best practice emergency mental health assessments and acute psychosocial and peer support. We will provide information regarding the range of options within ELMHS and the broader service system and in collaboration with parents, carers and agencies facilitate the process of linking in with the best options for support. Child and family empowerment and choice are a key priority in the Paediatric EPS Team and the team will work hard to ensure that families understand the care options and are able to form clear and informed opinions about the next steps in their care journey.


All ELMHS Mental Health Clinicians provide a broad range of services within the Southern Region. They focus on providing a professional clinical practice that is sensitive to issues of diversity, which adheres to professional ethics, relevant legislation and policies and procedures. All ELMHS employees work within a framework of quality improvement, adhere to Australian Council of Health Care Standards (ACHS) requirements and risk management principals with the primary focus being on the rights and responsibilities of clients and their families and adherence to the values contained in the service mission statement.

 

About Us

The Monash Health Paediatric Emergency Psychiatric Services (Paediatric EPS) Team provide a specialist infant, child, adolescent, and family emergency care and system navigation service. The aim of the Paediatric EPS Team is to provide a responsive and supportive access point for families of children and adolescents requiring emergency mental health support. The Paediatric EPS Team engages and listens to the concerns of young people and their families and respond with empathy and compassion. We work collaboratively with children, adolescents, parents and carers, maintaining a focus on the broader family context utilising a strengths based approach. Our aim to empower parents and carers and in collaboration with them strive to find the best solutions for their child and family. 

 

About You

You are a dedicated and compassionate professional with a strong background in working with children, young people, and families—particularly in times of crisis. You understand the complexity of youth mental health and are confident in assessing and responding to risk, while also engaging collaboratively with families and the broader care system. You value education and capacity-building, both within your immediate team and across the wider system. You are confident in delivering training and presentations that enhance mental health literacy and collaborative practice. 

 

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience managing risk, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, and developmental concerns.

  • Skills in conducting mental state assessments and formulating effective safety plans.

  • Experience supporting young people with behavioural disturbances and emotional difficulties.

  • An understanding of developmental issues and how these present across childhood and adolescence.

  • Insight into the impact medical conditions can have on a young person’s mental health and wellbeing.

  • Brings a reflective, collaborative approach to care, always striving to improve outcomes for young people and families.

  • Qualifications in line with the attached supportive documents. 
  • Sound knowledge of the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce 2013
  • Current valid Driver’s Licence
