About the Role
Join our team as a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Grade 3 on a part time (0.8 FTE), fixed term basis until July 2026. This position will assisting in developing Occupational Therapy services across VPRS, and there may be a requirement to travel to other sites. 

 
In this role, you will provide specialist clinical care in an interdisciplinary model to children and adolescents requiring rehabilitation after major illness, injury or elective procedure. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for ensuring a best-practice approach to the delivery of rehabilitation, focussing on the child’s needs in the context of everyday activities and lifetime opportunities. This role involves delivering high-quality occupational therapy services within the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (VPRS) framework. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of best-practice rehabilitation approaches across a range of conditions, including cerebral palsy (CP), spinal injuries, acquired brain injuries (ABI) such as stroke and post-traumatic amnesia (PTA), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), functional neurological disorder (FND), and other relevant diagnoses.
 
 
Key responsibilities include independently conducting comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, managing upper limb impairments, and utilising appropriate outcome measures and assessment tools. The role also involves developing expertise in paediatric equipment prescription and facilitating participation-based therapy groups aligned with the VPRS model of care, such as wheelchair skills, upper limb strengthening, school readiness, bike groups, and disability sports and recreation. 
 
 
Additionally, the therapist will be responsible for designing and implementing tailored home programs to support each child's ongoing rehabilitation and participation goals as well as creating strong partnerships within and outside Monash Health. 

 

About Us

The Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (VPRS) is a statewide specialist service which caters for the complex rehabilitation needs of children and adolescents after major injury, medical illness, and congenital conditions who undergo interventions aimed at functional maximisation.  VPRS has 8 sites Eastern Health, Bendigo Health, Barwon Health, Ballart Health, Goulbourn Valley Health, Latrobe Regional Hospital and at The Royal Children’s Hospital.  VPRS utilises a child and adolescent specific interdisciplinary care model according to best practice and will assist in delivering hospital, community- and home-based services.  The service has a key role in providing long-term specialist follow-up clinics and ensuring transition to adult-based services where required.

 

 

About You

You are a dedicated occupational therapist with experience in paediatric and adolescent care. You have strong clinical skills in assessment, intervention, and discharge planning, and are committed to evidence-based practice. With excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities, you work well both independently and in a team. You bring leadership and supervision experience, a commitment to ongoing learning, and a good understanding of public health systems and equipment funding processes. 

 

Qualification & licence requirements include: 

 

  • A relevant Occupational Therapy qualification (post grade qualifications are desirable)
  • AHPRA registration 
  • Demonstrated expereince in paediatric care (specialist skills in rehabilitation is desirable)
  • Drivers Licence
