About Us

Social Workers at Monash Children’s Hospital are an integral part of the broader Monash Children’s Allied Health Team, delivering specialised services to infant, paediatric and adolescent patients and their families. Social work services are provided in inpatient settings including Paediatric ICU, Children’s Cancer Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; in ambulatory care services such as the Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and we work closely with state-wide services such as the Paediatric Palliative Care Program and the Victorian Forensic Paediatric Medical Service. 

 

Monash Children’s Hospital offers a dynamic, fast-paced, and supportive work environment. This position spans both inpatient services and the Children’s Cancer Centre with a focus on supporting children with acute and chronic conditions and their families. Key responsibilities include providing psychosocial support, counselling, discharge planning and coordinating referrals to external agencies.  

 

 

About the Role

Join our team as a Grade 2 social worker in a full time, ongoing role within our Children’s Cancer Centre team at Monash Children’s Hospital, based at Clayton. 

  • Specialise in supporting children with cancer and their families.

The Grade 2 Social Worker in the Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) provides high-quality, compassionate psychosocial care to children and families navigating cancer and other complex health conditions. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver comprehensive assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, discharge planning and linkage with community services.

 

This role supports families through the emotional, social and practical impacts of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship - including sensitive end-of-life care and bereavement support. You will assess risk and social complexity, contribute to coordinated care planning, and advocate to ensure safe and holistic outcomes.

 

As part of the broader Social Work Service at Monash Children’s Hospital, you will also provide supervision, participate in service development initiatives, and contribute to the after-hours on-call service across sites.

 

 

About You

You are a dynamic and collaborative Social Worker who thrives in multidisciplinary environments and is passionate about holistic, family-centred care. You’ll bring strong experience in comprehensive psychosocial assessment, discharge planning and complex problem-solving, underpinned by sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children, Youth and Families Act.

 

With a deep understanding of the psychosocial impact of acute and chronic illness, you’ll confidently support children and families through challenging circumstances - including end-of-life care, grief and bereavement.

 

Experience, Qualification & licence requirements include:

  • Minimum 2 years clinical social work experience
  • Bachelor of Social Work or Masters Social Work Qualifying OR Master of Social Work, OR equivalent as assessed and approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) 
  • Eligible for ordinary membership of AASW (http://www.aasw.asn.au/) 
  • Experience in an acute health care setting and/or with children and families and/or with Child Protection
