About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate Grade 2 Social Worker to join the multidisciplinary team at Monash Health’s Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU), located at Dandenong Hospital. This is a full time, ongoing position, working Monday to Friday.
As part of a collaborative team that includes Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Exercise Physiologists, Dietitians, Psychiatrists and Nurses, you will play a pivotal role in delivering psychosocial interventions that support consumers’ recovery and promote reintegration into the community. This role involves conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments, providing direct social work interventions, facilitating group programs, and actively participating in discharge planning and family/carer engagement.
In addition to managing a caseload, the Social Worker will contribute to our NDIS interface The role also encompasses supporting consumers and families with complex social needs, including issues related to family violence, homelessness, financial hardship, child protection, and guardianship matters. This is a dynamic and varied role that requires strong clinical acumen, teamwork, and a commitment to recovery-oriented practice.
About Us
The Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) is a 50 bed unit based at Dandenong Hospital that provides medium to long-term inpatient treatment and rehabilitation for people who have continuous and severe symptoms of mental illness. Monash Health SECU accepts people from the catchment areas of; Eastern Health, Peninsula Health, Monash Health and Alfred Health. Our collaborative multi-disciplinary team is made up of; Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Clinical and Neuro Psychologists, Exercise Physiologist, Dietician, Music Therapist, Psychiatrists and Mental Health Nurses. The multi-disciplinary team provide treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation programs optimising individual function, for return to community living. NDIS plays an integral part in providing psychosocial support and care for our consumers and families during their stay supporting community transition.
About You
You are a qualified and dedicated Social Worker who brings both clinical experience and a deep commitment to recovery-focused mental health care. You hold a recognised Social Work qualification and are eligible for membership with the AASW. You meet the AASW standards for practice, including supervised field education, and bring a sound understanding of the Mental Health Act, family violence reforms, and relevant legislation impacting mental health and social work practice.
