About Monash Children’s Cancer and Haematology Centre (MCCHC)

Located within Monash Children’s Hospital, the MCCHC is one of Victoria’s leading paediatric cancer services, caring for approximately 30% of the state’s children diagnosed with cancer. The Centre provides specialist inpatient, outpatient and day treatment services for children and adolescents with cancer and complex haematological conditions.

As treatments continue to improve and more children survive cancer, the focus is increasingly shifting beyond cure alone—towards ensuring children, siblings and parents thrive throughout and after treatment. This role has been created to help drive that transformation.

About the Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional clinical social work role.

As the Grade 3 Social Worker – Paediatric Cancer Survivorship & Family Support Project, you will lead the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative psychosocial programs that address critical gaps in care for children and families navigating the cancer journey. Working closely with families, multidisciplinary clinicians and external partners, you will help build sustainable models of care that enhance resilience, strengthen family wellbeing and improve long-term psychosocial outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice, leadership, program development, quality improvement and research-informed innovation in a role that will directly shape future service delivery.

As part of this exciting project, you will:

Design and Deliver New Family Support Programs

  • Develop and implement structured parent and sibling support programs
  • Identify unmet psychosocial needs and translate them into meaningful service initiatives

Build Survivorship and Long-Term Follow-Up Supports

  • Work alongside survivorship and long-term follow-up clinics to ensure continuity of care
  • Support families transitioning through maintenance treatment, survivorship and post-treatment adjustment

Provide Advanced Clinical Leadership

  • Deliver expert psychosocial assessment, risk assessment and therapeutic intervention
  • Support early identification of psychosocial vulnerabilities and coordinate appropriate interventions
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and clinical leadership to Grade 2 social workers within the oncology service

Drive Service Innovation and Quality Improvement

  • Lead service evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the development of contemporary psychosocial oncology models aligned with national standards and emerging evidence

Influence the Future of Care

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed family-centred psychosocial care across the cancer journey
  • Advocate for innovative practices that improve the experiences of children, young people and families
  • Help establish sustainable programs that will benefit future generations of families accessing the service

About You

You are an experienced and forward-thinking social worker who combines strong clinical expertise with a passion for innovation and service development.

You enjoy transforming ideas into meaningful programs and are motivated by opportunities to create lasting improvements for children and families.

You will bring:

  • Advanced skills in psychosocial assessment, therapeutic intervention and complex case management
  • Experience providing supervision, leadership and support to social work staff
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement or evaluate programs and service improvements
  • A commitment to family-centred, culturally safe and trauma-informed practice
