About the Role - Sonographer (Grade 3)

  • Classification:  SO57 – SO60: Health Professional Services Award or Agreement as determined 
  • Reports to:  The Director of Monash Imaging & The Director of Ultrasound, Sonographer In-Charge (Monash Health) 
  • Department:  Ultrasound, Monash Imaging 

This position is a staff sonographer position within Monash Health. This person will conduct quality clinical ultrasound examinations. They are expected to participate in the ultrasound department’s educational and quality assurance programs. The Sonographer will assist in the education of trainee sonographers, registrars and other appropriate staff.  Sonographers are expected to work within the multi-disciplinary team at Monash Health to maintain quality outcomes and efficient workflow.   

Responsibilities/ key result areas:

  • Ensure high quality imaging is produced at all times 
  • Adherence to ultrasound department protocols and policies in completing the requested examination. 
  • Partake in a QC program for equipment and image quality, and service to the department clients. 
  • Ensure that an amicable working environment is established and maintained. 
  • Ensure efficient use of the rooms and equipment to allow high throughput. 
  • Ensure all records on computer, request cards and images are accurate and maintained. 
  • Ensure high quality patient care is delivered 
  • Completion of competency assessments and advanced beginner status as specified. 
  • Attendance at clinical meetings 

 

Monash Health Monash Imaging Ultrasound provides services at: 

  • Casey Hospital (6 units & 2 mobile units), 

  • Cranbourne Hospital (3 units)* 

  • Dandenong Hospital (5 units & 2 mobile units)  

  • Monash Health Fertility - Clayton (2 units)

  • Monash Medical Centre – Clayton (7 units & 3 mobile unit) 

  • Monash Medical Centre – Moorabbin (4 units) 

  • Victorian Heart Hospital (3 units & 1 mobile unit) 

  • Pakenham Health Centre (3 units) 

  • Vascular Lab (3 units) 

*due to open Feb 2025 

 

A range of positions exist within the service: 

  • Grade 4 Sonographers  in a  leadership role 

  • Grade 3 Sonographers 

  • Grade 2 Sonographers 

  • Trainee Sonographers  

The Sonographer position is seeking an ultrasound professional who has completed a recognised ultrasound training program and performs high quality ultrasound examinations. This is demonstrated by accurate diagnostic decision making, informed and open liaison with radiologists and sonographers, efficient workflow and patient care. Their ability to show initiative assists the clinical provision of ultrasound within Monash Health. The Sonographer is part of the ultrasound team, actively participating in the educational and quality activities of the department.
