About the Role
This Paediatric Speech Pathology Training Program Consists of 3 Rotations, through the following areas:

School Readiness Program
-
Community Health Program
-
Acute / VPRS
Each Rotation is 12 Months, and the initial rotation will start in Community Health In Child and Family Program. This Training program aims to make you a well-rounded Paediatric Therapist ready to become a Grade 2 by end.
About Us - The Child and Family Program
The Child and Family Program including Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) and School Readiness Program. The program is comprised of numerous disciplines that focus on assessment and Child and Family focused care. The program consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Dieticians, Podiatrists, Psychologists & Counsellors, Exercise Physiologists, Social Workers and Community Development Workers. The team is committed to working with communities, families and individuals who have poor health outcomes and to providing high quality, multidisciplinary programs which embrace child and family centered practice, evidence-based practice and the Social Model of Health. The Child and Family Program comprises the Child Health Team and the School Readiness Team, and both are components of the grade 1 paediatric rotation.
The Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service
The Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (VPRS) is a state-wide specialist service which caters for the complex rehabilitation needs of children and adolescents after major injury, medical illness, and/or congenital conditions who undergo interventions aimed at functional maximisation. The VPRS has integrated services at Monash Health, The Royal Children’s Hospital, Eastern Health, Bendigo Health Care Group, Barwon Health, Ballarat Health Services and Goulburn Valley Health Service. VPRS utilises a child and adolescent specific interdisciplinary care model according to best practice and will assist in delivering hospital, community and home-based services. The service has a key role in providing long-term specialist follow-up clinics and ensuring transition to adult-based services where required. The VPRS at Monash Health has 4 rehabilitation beds located in Monash Children’s Hospital and a large community based service.
Monash Children’s Hospital Allied Health
This team comprises of social workers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians, podiatrists and allied health assistants and provides services to families, infants and paediatric inpatients, outpatients and home based services. The Monash Children’s Hospital Allied Health team works across acute inpatient units, Paediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU & Special Care Nursery, Children’s Cancer Centre, Monash Children’s at Home and specialty clinics and services. The team works closely with allied health colleagues in VPRS, Music Child Life & Art, Mental Health and Community Health to provide an integrated holistic Monash Health paediatric service.
About You
As the Grade 1 Speech Pathologist, you will utilise their specialist knowledge and skills in communication and swallowing to work towards optimising communication and swallowing for health, well-being and participation. You are a core part of the multidisciplinary team and will contribute to:

Providing a high standard of client assessment, treatment and coordination of services to clients, to facilitate safe, effective, person-centred care.

The planning, development, quality and evaluation of the unit/service

The development, implementation and re-evaluation of protocols, practices and patient care both within the hospital/community service and wider field.

The liaison with external stakeholders relevant to the patient population

Participating in and encouraging a collaborative inter-professional team approach to achieve optimal patient care and outcomes.

Actively challenging, evaluating and developing Speech Pathology practice, with the aim of delivering effective clinical outcomes in the most efficient manner (with support from senior staff).
Mandatory Requirements:

Successfully completed an accredited Australian entry level speech pathology qualification or successfully completed an Overseas Qualification Assessment with Speech Pathology Australia within the previous two years

Eligible for membership as a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia

Valid Driving Licence
