About the Role:

Join our team as a Grade 2 Speech Pathologist on a part-time, ongoing basis (0.70 EFT / 53.2 hours per fortnight), based in the Oasis Child Neuropsychiatry Inpatient Unit at Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton. This role offers flexibility, with the option to work full or half days.

 

This opportunity is ideal for a passionate and collaborative clinician who places patient experience at the centre of their practice. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver discipline-specific assessment and intervention, contributing to shared formulation and care planning for children admitted to the Oasis Unit.

 

Drawing on your specialist speech pathology expertise, you will apply current and emerging evidence-based practices to support children with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric difficulties, and their families.

 

You will contribute through:

  • Individually tailored interventions
  • Delivery of group programs
  • Specialist consultation and education for families, schools, CYMHS and community-based services
  • Participation in research and evaluation projects

About Us:

The Oasis unit is a purpose built unit located in the Monash Children’s Hospital. Providing specialist assessment and care planning for children aged up to 12 years, with neurodevelopmental disorders (such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or Intellectual Disability) and/or who show severe or complex psychiatric, behavioural and developmental symptoms that indicate need for a short term inpatient service.

 

All children admitted to the unit are accompanied by parent / carer who remain throughout the admission.

 

Oasis is a multi-disciplinary unit that provides a range of consultation services, brief emergency admissions, and planned assessment admissions. The unit is part of the network of infant, child and youth mental health services (ICFYMHS) situated across metropolitan and regional Victoria. Patient care is carefully planned and managed through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an integrated and effective service, tailored to the individual needs of each child, family and carer. Oasis is a centre for excellence with an active clinical and research program that integrates and enhances knowledge from psychiatry, paediatrics, neurology, endocrinology, and other specialist medical and allied health services.

About You:

To thrive in this role you will bring the following:

  • A recognised degree in Speech Pathology (Bachelor or Master level), including overseas qualifications assessed by Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) within the past two years
  • Eligible for membership as a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Passionate about providing safe, evidence-based, and high-quality care
  • Dedicated to delivering patient centred care and patient advocacy
  • A collaborative, empathetic team player who leads by example and contributes positively to team culture
  • A team approach and ability to lead by example
  • A flexible mindset and willingness to work in different areas as required 
  • Experience working in a child and adolescent mental health setting or and/or extensive experience in a relevant area of practice (e.g. paediatrics, educational settings, NDIS)
  • Experience and accredited training in ADOS-2 assessment highly regarded
