An exciting opportunity for a qualified and experienced Surgical Instrument Maker to work within the Clinical Engineering team to contribute to the support, routine, preventative and remedial repair and maintenance of traditional and emerging medical and surgical instruments and related technologies.
About the role
The role of this Surgical Instrument Maker position within Clinical Engineering is to contribute to the life-cycle management of medical and surgical instruments at Monash Health and associated institutions. This includes, but is not limited to the support, routine, preventative and remedial repair and maintenance of traditional and emerging medical and surgical instruments and related technologies.
About you
This is a unique and highly specialized position requiring a broad, expert knowledge of all aspects of medical and surgical instruments and associated instrumentation. Understanding of optical instrumentation, pneumatics, materials and material biocompatibility are highly desirable.
Additionally, relationships are established with medical and surgical teams to design, manufacture or modify instrumentation according to specialist needs. It is often a requirement to work in clinical environments such as operating theatres to provide support to clinical staff where needed.
This person works closely in a professional team environment alongside other Surgical Instrument Makers, sharing the workload and supporting one another. Surgical Instrument Makers are an important speciality within the broader, multi-disciplinary, Clinical Engineering team and provide expert, mechanical workshop support to the Biomedical Engineers, provide training and supervision in the correct and safe use of mechanical workshop tools and assist in mechanical aspects of medical equipment repair as required.
Candidates will be assessed on qualifications, experience and may be required to demonstrate skills and knowledge of surgical instrument repair and mechanical workshop techniques and safety.
