About Victorian Heart Hospital

The Victorian Heart hospital is a joint initiative between Monash Health and Monash University. The hospital is located at Monash University and opened to patients in February 2023. The hospital is Australia's first dedicated cardiac centre and provides best practice high volume cardiac patient care in a framework of innovative and efficient models of care. It houses the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre, the research arm of Monash Heart and a research centre of Monash University. The VHH incorporates the full range of ambulatory and in-patient cardiac care, including cardiac operating theatres, cardiac catheterisation laboratories, cardiac intensive care, cardiac emergency, non-invasive cardiac imaging services and cardiac specialist clinics.

 

About Monash Emergency

Monash Health Emergency Services comprises the five Emergency Departments of Monash Health, Monash Medical Centre Emergency Department (Adult and Paediatric), Dandenong Hospital Emergency Department and Casey Hospital Emergency Department, which together treat over 255,000 patients per annum.

Monash Medical Centre ED, part of the tertiary referral hospital, has separate adult and paediatric services and has approx. 100,000 presentations per annum.

Dandenong ED is a mixed department of adults and children seeing around 70,000 and is a major urban teaching hospital.

Casey ED, a mixed department, is an outer urban hospital seeing around 80,000 presentations per annum. 

Cardiac Emergency at VHH opened in March 2023 and sees approximately 10,000 patients. Currently it receives Ambulance Victoria patients and patients referred by local GPS / specialists.

 

About the Role

As the Unit Head of Emergency Medicine - Victorian Heart Hospital, you have accountability for the clinical and operational performance of the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) Cardiac Emergency; you are a leader in the Senior Medical Team who acts as a role model for the core values of the organisation and provides outstanding and effective leadership, coordination, and management of the VHH Emergency Department employees. As part of the Monash Emergency Medicine leadership team, you will:

· Assist the Monash Service Director Emergency Medicine in co-ordinating and providing emergency care at the Victorian Heart Hospital

· Support excellence in interdisciplinary clinical practice

· Facilitate clinical education and promote and support research to advance VHH Emergency Medicine and deliver excellence in patient-centred care.

· Will establish the organisational structure of the Unit and appoint medical staff in consultation with the Service Director, Emergency Medicine.

· Have extensive clinical experience in managing cardiology, and post-cardiac surgery patients in the emergency setting.
