The Ward Clerk is a key role within the Birth Suite and Pregnancy Assessment Unit, providing a customer focused service to Women, their families and visitors. Working in a busy team-based environment the Ward Clerk provides efficient and effective clerical support to the clinical staff including Midwives and our Obstetric team. The Ward Clerk contributes to optimum patient care and actively contributes to the functioning of the Department. The Birth Suite and Pregnancy Assessment at Monash Clayton see thousands of women through its doors each year. It is a fast paced and ever changing environment.
Develop in our supportive team of 7 ward clerks (and 43 midwives), working 60 hours a fortnight, afternoon shifts commencing at 15:00hrs until 23:00hrs:

About the Department / Program
The Birth Suite and Pregnancy Assessment (PAU) at Monash Clayton see thousands of women through its doors each year. Pregnant and postnatal women attend PAU for review of pregnancy or significant postnatal concerns. It is a fast paced and ever changing environment. The Birth Suite is where women are seen in labour and birth as well as with significant pregnancy/postnatal concerns requiring admission and closer observation. They are generally assessed first in the PAU.
About the Role
Join our team as a Ward Clerk on a part time, 12 month fixed term Commencing 13/07/2026- 11/07/2027, covering parental leave to work at Monash Medical Centre based at Clayton. Afternoon Shifts 1500-2300hrs. Rotating days including weekends. In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of Lisa Sutton, Midwife Manager and working with the broader clerical and midwifery team. Your role includes:

Screening and prioritising telephone calls and enquiries to the Unit

Registration/Admission/Transfer/Discharge of patients

Outpatient bookings
-
MBS billing
-
General clerical duties.

Working closely with Midwifery team to support clerical needs.
About You

Ability to read, write and speak English fluently

Demonstrated experience in time management and prioritising workload demands in situations where competing deadlines may arise.

Exceptional clerical/computer skills

Excellent people and communication skills

Ability to work independently as well as within a team
Mandatory requirements of the role - qualifications, licences, memberships:

Experienced with iPM

Microsoft Teams
-
SMR/EMR/CAPMAN (Desirable)

Oracle fusion- (logging engineering requests) (Desirable)

Familiar with BOS (Birthing outcome system) (preferable)
