About the Role
Join our team as a Ward Clerk on a temporary fixed-term, part-time basis (3 days per week – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), working within 52 Maternity, a 48-bed maternity unit in a busy tertiary hospital.
This is a key frontline role, providing high-quality clerical and administrative support to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the ward and an excellent experience for women, families and visitors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing a welcoming first point of contact for patients, families and visitors
- Managing ward reception duties, including telephone enquiries and message coordination
- Supporting patient admission, transfer and discharge processes
- Admitting, transferring and discharging patients within the electronic systems
- Coordinating ward administration tasks such as ordering supplies, equipment requests and general clerical duties
- Supporting the multidisciplinary team to enable safe, efficient and patient-centred care
The role works standard weekday hours and is based on-site within the maternity unit.
About Us
52 Maternity is a fast-paced, 48-bed maternity ward within a large tertiary hospital - Monash Medical Centre, caring for women and newborns with a wide range of clinical needs. The ward is supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including midwives, medical staff, allied health and administrative professionals.

About You
To ensure your success in this role, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and attributes:
- Previous experience in a ward clerk, medical administration or similar healthcare role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer-focused approach
- High level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment
- Strong computer skills and confidence using patient management systems and office software
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Mandatory / role-related requirements:
- Experience in a healthcare or hospital administrative setting
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Ability to work the nominated part-time days (Wednesday to Friday)
