About the Ophthalmology Unit 

The Ophthalmology Unit provides clinical services at MMC Clayton and Cranbourne Community Hospital. Surgical services at the Cranbourne Day Surgery provide the second highest annual number of cataract operations in Victoria, with a smaller surgical service at MMC and MCH. On-call emergency services are provided at MMC, Dandenong, Casey, Moorabbin and Victorian Heart Hospitals and Kingston Centre. Paediatric clinical services are provided to Monash Children’s Hospital and Sandringham Hospital. The Unit comprises the Director of Unit, twenty-seven sessional consultants and seven orthoptists. 

  

About the role   

Applications are invited to apply for the positions of Ophthalmology Senior Registrar or Ophthalmology Cataract and Medical Retina Fellow. 

 

The successful applicants will work in a busy ophthalmology department with extensive experience in all aspects of ophthalmology. In this role, you will provide clinical and surgical services in a range of settings. This includes the multidisciplinary preadmission clinic for patients referred by community ophthalmologists and optometrists, and postoperative assessment. Outpatient clinics provide inpatient and outpatient referral services for both adult and paediatric populations and cover all aspects of ophthalmology including medical and surgical retina, paediatrics/ocular motility, corneal and oculoplastics. As part of the largest health network in Victoria, the ophthalmic cases are often associated with complex medical problems.

About You:   

To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge/attitude:  

 

You will demonstrate the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team providing quality patient-centred care. 

 

The following clinical and surgical skills are desirable: 

  • The ability to perform routine cataract surgery independently 

  • The ability to perform intravitreal injections and retinal laser 

  • The ability to perform ROP screening of low-risk neonates 

 

Mandatory requirements of the role:  

  • Primary medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent   

  • All candidates will require Australian working rights 

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra)  

  • Employee Working with Children's Check  

  • Two Satisfactory Reference Checks 

  • Clear police check conducted within the last three months 

  • Current Drivers Licence
