About Us - Emergency Department, Dandenong Hospital

 

Our Emergency Department manages approximately 70,000 presentations annually, serving both adult and paediatric patients.

 

The department includes: 

 

  • 35 main cubicles and 20 short-stay beds 

  • 4 resuscitation bays, decontamination facilities, and 2 isolation rooms 

  • Dedicated mental health facilities  

  • and a 20-bed adult Short Stay Unit

About the Role

 

The Emergency Department Administrative Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Emergency Department. This multi-skilled position is responsible for registering, admitting, transferring, and discharging patients, while also providing essential administrative support to medical and nursing staff and responding to patient enquiries.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Deliver a friendly, courteous, and professional service to all patients and visitors. 

  • Respond to incoming calls promptly and professionally. 

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming reception area. 

  • Provide administrative support to the Administration Manager and Medical staff as required. 

  • Uphold strict confidentiality at all times, including patient records and meeting documentation. 

  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into inpatient management systems. 

  • Stay informed and up to date with relevant hospital policies and procedures. 

 

As part of our dedicated administrative team, you will play a key role in supporting clinical staff and ensuring efficient patient flow. Your attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality will help create a seamless experience for patients and staff alike.

To succeed in this role, you will bring: 

 

  • Strong administrative and computer skills 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities 

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology (desirable) 

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively 

  • Familiarity with office equipment and hospital systems
