About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Monash Health Children's program to support and assist the Unit Head of Paediatrics at Dandenong Hospital (DH) and Director of the General Paediatric Unit, Monash Health in the provision of high quality General Paediatric Services, consistent with Monash Health values.
 
The paediatric unit at DH has a 3 bed SCN and a 8-12 bed children's ward, supported by a team of dedicated paediatric nurses and four consultants who provide 24 hour cover. Each paediatrician participates in a 1 in 4 roster of ward service, after-hours cover and 4 outpatient clinics per month. The outpatient clinics have registrar support.  In addition, it is expected that consultant will attend weekly teaching and clinical review meetings and contribute to the non-clinical activities of the paediatric unit.   These clinical review sessions are shared with Casey Hospital and video conferenced between sites thus allowing greater contact with colleagues.  A structured teaching program for junior staff is run by the consultants weekly.
 
On average the role will require 10.5 hours/week plus on call as rostered to provide long service leave cover from the 17th August 2026 until the 15th November 2026.  There may be an opportunity to extend this until the end of January 2027.
The role comprises: 
·    daily ward rounds for the week of ward service (one week in 4 including weekend), 
·    Supervision of clinical handover 0800-0830am when onward service
·    One overnight cover per week from 1700-0800 the next day, where you must be available to attend
               to emergencies within 30 minutes.
·    Unit meetings and teaching every Thursday from 1:30 to 4pm 
·     Co-ordination of the education program
·    Contribution to orientation of new JMS commencement during the period of employment.
·    Taking on the role of prevocational Supervisor 
·    Supervision and mentorship of registrars
 
Outpatient clinics  - 2 consecutive Wednesday mornings and when on the ward service, Wednesday afternoon.  
 

What you need

Qualifications/ Registrations/ Licenses

Essential:

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications
  • Fellowship of the RACP or equivalent
  • Working with Children’s Certificate
  • Successful completion of Advanced NeoResus or equivalent neonatal resuscitation course within past 2 years.

The incumbent must complete the Credentialling and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement. This will be reviewed on a regular basis.
