About the Department / Program 

The Dandenong Food Services team delivers services to a culturally diverse patient base within a large, fastpaced acute health setting, supporting more than 500 inpatient beds, a major Emergency Department, and a Mental Health facility. Working collaboratively, the team is committed to continuously developing and improving the patient experience within the public health environment.

 

 

About the Role 

The Food Services Manager at Dandenong Hospital is a key member of the site Leadership Team, providing strong operational and strategic leadership for a large, multidisciplinary workforce. You will be accountable for the effective management of a significant operational budget, service performance, and workforce outcomes, ensuring Food Services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. Reporting to the Support Services Manager, and working in close partnership with Site Leadership Teams and Food Services Managers across multiple Monash Health sites, you will drive consistency, continuous improvement, and accountability to ensure Food Services meet the needs of all patients on site.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing strong, supportive leadership to the Food Services team, fostering a positive and engaging employee experience
  • Achieving and maintaining the highest standards of Food Safety, Compliance, and Quality Assurance
  • Delivering exceptional patient‑centred care and positive Food Service experiences
  • Collaborating closely with department leaders and multidisciplinary teams to drive service excellence and continuous improvement
  • Overseeing overall department performance, including workforce leadership, operational outcomes, and effective budget management

 

This is a full‑time, ongoing role, primarily working standard business hours Monday to Friday. While the position is based at Dandenong Hospital, occasional travel to other Monash Health sites may be required to meet operational and business needs.

 

About You 

Working closely with Nurse Managers, Dietitians, Department Leads, and other Food Services Managers, you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge:

  • Demonstrated success in effective team leadership and strong stakeholder engagement
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high‑quality services within tight timeframes
  • Proven success in leading change, driving service improvement, and embedding sustainable operational practices

Mandatory requirements of the role:

  • Demonstrated experience managing a large commercial kitchen operation, preferably within a Healthcare environment
  • Proven experience managing a medium to large team
  • Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (desirable)
  • Further qualifications in HACCP principles and quality management systems (desirable)
  • Highly developed written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise reports, organise information logically, and tailor content appropriately for the intended purpose and audience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • A positive, proactive, and motivational approach to leading change and supporting the adoption of new concepts and practices
  • A strong commitment to delivering highquality, patient centred services through effective collaboration with stakeholders and exceeding both consumer and employee expectations
