About the Role

 

Join our team as a Hand Therapist on a part time (0.8 FTE), ongoing capacity. The position is primarily based at Dandenong Hospital, with services also provided at Monash Children’s Hospital (Clayton) and a satellite clinic at Casey Hospital. This position is open to Grade 1 and Grade 2 clinicians. 

 

This role will have responsibilities across the full range of our hand therapy service, in the acute trauma caseload. The hand therapy team is located within the out-patients department with busy clinics running daily and providing an excellent environment for team learning and a multidisciplinary approach.

 

Clinical teaching is a core activity, involving staff supervision and active support of student placements. You will be involved in service development, working parties and clinical groups as needed, working with the Hand Therapy team and out-patient department to provide an excellent service and implementing service changes as required.

 

For Grade 1 clinicians, a structured learning programme is in place, as is close supervision in-line with tailored learning objectives.

Monash Health delivers one of Victoria’s largest acute Hand Therapy services, providing care across the lifespan with a strong focus on traumatic injuries requiring plastic and orthopaedic surgery. Patients present with a wide variety of conditions, ensuring a diverse and rewarding caseload.

 

Our Hand Therapy team works closely with Plastics and Orthopaedics surgical teams, providing best practice care to maximise patients’ recovery and return to function. We also embrace continuous improvement through research, service development, and evidence-based practice.

 

About You 

 

You must be an AHPRA accredited Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist with well-developed skills in acute hand injury for Grade 2’s. You are recognised as a clinical specialist within the Hand Therapy field and be able to contribute in pursuing innovation and excellence within Monash Health. Grade 1 applicants should have a demonstrated passion and early learning in place in the hand therapy field. 

 

You will bring:

 

  • A respectful communication style and patient advocacy skills.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to engage patients in their recovery.
  • Willingness to take responsibility for your own professional learning.
  • Experience supporting departmental teaching, resource development, and research initiatives.

 

Essential requirements:

 

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy (or equivalent).
  • Current AHPRA registration.
  • Demonstrated passion for Hand Therapy and evidence of developing or consolidated skills in this specialty area.
