About the Role

Join our team as the on-going, part time (0.2 FTE) Grade 2 Music Therapist. This role is based within the Youth & Family program at Thomas Street, Dandenong however you may be required for work at any of the Monash Health sites.

In this dynamic and rewarding role, you will deliver high-quality clinical care as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing individual assessments, therapeutic interventions (both individual and group), and care coordination tailored to the unique needs of young people.

You will manage an active caseload and play a key role in enhancing outcomes through collaboration with internal and external service providers. This position also offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of future practitioners by supervising social work students on placement.

As part of a supportive team, you’ll contribute to the seamless coordination of care, demonstrate clinical leadership, and engage in ongoing professional development. You’ll also be instrumental in shaping an evolving program that addresses the complex needs of young people in our community.

Please note this service includes after-hours work on Thursday's (11:00am-7:00pm) to support our Youth Health Hub.

About Us

The Youth and Family Program is comprised of numerous disciplines that focus on the assessment and delivery of youth and family focused care. The multi/inter disciplinary team is committed to working with vulnerable and marginalised young people and adults by providing high quality, multidisciplinary programs which embrace client centred, trauma informed practice and evidence-based services.

About You

You are a qualified Music Therapist that has worked with young people adjusting to complex health conditions and mental health challenges. You have a strong understanding of the unique needs of vulnerable youth, including those from refugee and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

You will incorporate your specialist knowledge and skills of music making methods to provide evidence-based interventions and actively support consumers as they aim to improve their health, functioning and wellbeing. You bring well-developed skills in therapeutic intervention, with the ability to assess and manage high-risk behaviours. You have experience facilitating group programs and have contributed to the design and delivery of targeted clinical interventions for at-risk young people.

Your practice is grounded in relevant music therapy theories, a sound understanding of legal and ethical frameworks, and a demonstrated ability to navigate complex service systems.

You ara able work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings, demonstrate emerging leadership, and are committed to continuous learning, quality improvement, and supporting the next generation of practitioners through student supervision and professional development initiatives.

Qualificiation and licence requirements of the role include: 

• Undergraduate or Post Graduate Degree in Music Therapy from an approved training course 
• Eligible for Membership and Registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Inc. 
• Current ARIA Music Therapist Copyright & Reproduction License
