About the Role

Join our team as an Occupational Therapist, Grade 2, on a full time ongoing basis (Monday to Friday), working in The Youth Acute Inpatient Unit (Unit 2), based within Dandenong Hospital Youth Mental Health Service. Whilst the position is based at Dandenong Unit 2, travel may be required to other Monash Health sites. 

 

This is position offers a unique opportunity to deliver evidence-based occupational therapy within an acute youth mental health setting. As part of a supportive and experienced team, you will contribute to the holistic care and recovery of young people experiencing significant mental health challenges, including those in crisis or unable to be managed in a less restrictive environment.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Maintain an active caseload and deliver therapeutic occupational therapy interventions
  • Provide comprehensive functional and mental health assessments
  • Support patient-centred care planning and recovery-oriented discharge pathways
  • Collaborate closely with families, carers, and community supports including NDIS providers and alcohol and other drug (AOD) services
  • Offer secondary consultation and clinical input within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team

 

You will be operationally accountable to the Nurse Unit Manager, clinically supported by the Consultant Psychiatrist(s), and professionally guided by the Discipline Senior Occupational Therapist. This role is ideal for an early-career to mid-level occupational therapist looking to grow within a vibrant, youth-focused acute mental health team—where your skills and compassion will have a real impact on young lives.

 

About Us

Unit 2 is a 25 bed inpatient unit for young people aged 16 to 25 years, and provides services to the Southern Metropolitan Mental Health Services. It is located in the Mental Health Building at Dandenong Hospital. It is a safe and supportive place for young people to work through their mental health, emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual wellbeing. Their physical needs are also met with the support of clinical, medical and nursing staff. Families and carers are also supported during a young person’s admission to Unit 2 with a range of services.

Mandatory requirements of the role:

 

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapist of Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or equivalent
  • Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) – Occupational Therapy, with no restrictions (cannot have a non-practising registration)
  • Drivers Licence
