About Us

Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals (MHWLs) are one of the biggest reforms to come out of the Victorian Royal Commission into Mental Health, reimagining how people access support, closer to home and without the runaround. The Dandenong MHWL brings together Monash Health, Mind Australia (lead agency), Foundation House and Thorne Harbour Health, pooling the strengths of four organisations behind one accessible front door. Together, we support adults aged 26 and over experiencing mental health concerns, including those navigating co-occurring alcohol and other drug use, with community-based care that meets people where they're at. Here's what the service is built on:

• A genuine ‘no wrong door’ model, built on partnership between Monash Health, Mind Australia, Foundation House and Thorne Harbour Health
• Community-based mental health and wellbeing support for adults aged 26+, including co-occurring AOD needs
• Lived Experience voice embedded at the centre of service design and continuous improvement
• Close collaboration with peer practitioners, community mental health practitioners and the broader MHWL team

About the Role

As our Senior Registered Psychiatric Nurse, you'll bring deep clinical expertise to the most complex presentations within the service, while backing your colleagues to do their best work too. You'll conduct bio-psycho-social assessments, clinical mental state and risk assessments, and provide secondary consultation and escalation support across the team. Working closely with the Clinical Manager, you'll help shape mental health nursing practice, procedures and training, and deliver brief therapeutic interventions — from psychoeducation to single-session family work — in the community or via telehealth. You'll take part in cyclical clinical reviews as a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, and work in genuine partnership with Mind Australia, consumers, families and carers to build safety and care plans that actually make sense for people's lives. Key Responsibilities

This role sits at the clinical heart of the MHWL; equal parts hands-on practice and behind-the-scenes support for the wider team. In this role, you will:

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and clinical risk evaluations, and support other clinicians to do the same
• Deliver brief, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and facilitate care escalation where needed (e.g. PTS, ICT, CCT)
• Provide clinical guidance, education and support to nursing staff, and contribute to training and procedure development
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, care plans and progress notes in line with Local and Monash Health standards

About You

You're an experienced mental health nurse who's just as comfortable leading a complex clinical assessment as you are mentoring a colleague through one. You bring genuine warmth to your work with consumers and carers, without losing the clinical rigour the role demands. We'd love to hear from you if:

• You bring strong leadership and communication skills, with a talent for building relationships across a broad range of stakeholders
• You're confident practising independently, while equally comfortable consulting and collaborating with others
• You understand the interplay between mental health, physical health and co-occurring conditions, and bring a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach to care
• You're committed to reflective practice, peer review and lifelong learning

Qualifications & Mandatory Requirements

To thrive in this role, you'll need to bring the following to the table:

• Current registration with AHPRA (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia)
• A sole qualification in Mental Health Nursing (specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program or Bachelor of Mental Health Nursing), or a postgraduate mental health nursing qualification (minimum Diploma level)
• Minimum 5 years' full-time equivalent experience in mental health nursing post qualification
• Sound understanding of your legal responsibilities under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022

Preferred Experience

While not essential, the following will help you settle in quickly:

• Experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring or education to nursing colleagues
• Confidence delivering brief interventions such as psychoeducation or single-session family work
• Experience working across community and telehealth service models
• Familiarity working within a multi-agency partnership or consortium model
