Our Journey

Unit 2 is positioned within Monash Health’s Mental Health Services, and is currently a 25 bed inpatient unit specialising in the care of consumers aged 18-25 with mental illness.  Unit 2’s focus on providing quality services to consumers and supporting access and flow have attracted many compliments from our client base, their families and carers.   

 

About the Role

Unit 2 is looking for experienced Mental Health Registered Psychiatric Nurses with a passion for providing Recovery focused patient-centred care to our consumers during an acute or severe phase of mental illness. 

Full time and Part time permanent positions available

7 day rotating rosters across all shifts

In this role as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse you will work with youth adult consumers with varying degrees of acute psychiatric or mental illness and/or drug and alcohol dependency problems.  You will be a recognised member of the psychiatric care team providing primary nursing care

 

About Infant, Child, Family and Youth Mental Health

Infant, Child, Family and Youth Mental Health provides a range of mental health services to infants, children, adolescents, youth and their families within the Southern Region.

The organisational and clinical model has been developed to provide mental health care that is flexible and responsive to the individual and developmental needs of the infant to youth populations and their families.  As such, this model will support the provision of integrated mental health care for young people, guided by consistent, service-wide protocols and principles of care.

Our Inpatient unit at Dandenong Hospital is truly a great place to work with opportunities to develop your career.

We have a 25 bed unit with capacity for up to eight intensive care area beds and another 17 designated low dependency beds thus supporting varying degrees of mental illness through comprehensive discharge planning and community engagement.

Consumers remain in the unit until they have recovered to the point where they can be treated effectively and safety in the community.  Our work is supported by a specialised multidisciplinary team, with direct liaising with the comprehensive community mental health services.

Collaboratively, we provide a range of therapeutic interventions and programs available to consumers and their families, explore ways to better manage the illness, improve coping strategies and move towards Recovery.

 

About You

As a motivated and experienced Psychiatric Nurse, you possess a patient-centred approach and demonstrate a commitment to Recovery focused care.  You are an innovative thinker and are always looking for ways to improve service delivery.  You also demonstrate a keen understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act (2022) as it relates to delivering holistic client care.

 

What You Need:

  • Evidence of commitment to working in Mental Health/Mental Health Nursing Graduate/Post Graduate Qualification in Mental Health as outlined in the position description
  • Demonstrated experience within an Inpatient Unit or similar
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Relevant Right to Work/VISA
