Our Team
Providing service across South-Eastern Victoria, the Mental Health Forensic Assessment and Consultation Team (MHFACT) is staffed by a senior specialist multidisciplinary team that provide clinical service enhancement to patients, their families and treating teams. Our patients are showing signs of mental ill health and have developed a pathological grievance, have become fixated or may be at risk of radicalisation. We work outside the normal case management pathway providing flexible interventions and support dependent upon the unique needs of this vulnerable patient group and the systems supporting them. The team receive referrals from the Victorian Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (VFTAC), a joint Victoria Police and Forensicare service, who identify individuals who pose a threat both to themselves and the Victorian community. MHFACT are part of Forensic Mental Health Services that also includes the Forensic Clinical Specialist (FCS) Program.
A Day in the Life
With offices in Dandenong but working flexibly to meet the needs of patients across South-Eastern Victoria, the senior mental health clinician will work with patients presenting with mental health conditions and a range of forensic issues. This may include primary consultations with patients, secondary and tertiary consultations with a patient’s service system, the provision of risk assessment reports utilising structured professional judgement tools, enhanced treatment planning, coordination of case conferences with a patent’s key stakeholders, the provision of specialist interventions and the use of brokerage. The senior mental health clinician will be supported to increase their skills working with patients with forensic issues and further hone their formulation and report writing skills.
