About the Role
Southern Dual Diagnosis Services (SDDS) is seeking a dedicated Senior Dual Diagnosis Clinician to join our team in a full-time ongoing role. This position is open to Grade 4 Nurses, Grade 3 Occupational Therapists, and Grade 3 Social Workers who are passionate about providing integrated care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues.

 

Based in Dandenong, this role will also require travel across Monash Health sites and the broader Southern Metropolitan Melbourne region to collaborate with key stakeholders, including supporting the Way Out Program at Monash.

 

Our services include:

  • Primary Consultation: Working alongside case managers/workers within a harm reduction framework to provide integrated support.
  • Secondary Consultation: Offering expert advice to assist in complex dual diagnosis cases.
  • Training & Education: Delivering capacity-building programs for mental health, alcohol, and drug services.
  • Case Reviews & Discussions: Facilitating reviews of individual cases and broader service issues.
  • Organisational Support: Assisting services in developing dual diagnosis capabilities.

About the Role

As a multidisciplinary team, SDDS works to strengthen the capabilities of mental health, alcohol, and other drug services by fostering collaborative partnerships and enhancing dual diagnosis support through consultation, education, and training. The key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Provide expert knowledge and leadership in dual diagnosis, integrating care between mental health and alcohol & drug sectors.
  • Oversee operational responsibilities in collaboration with the Community Service Manager, ensuring safe, ethical, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Advocate for and provide harm reduction education to stakeholders and the broader community.
  • Design, develop, and facilitate training programs to enhance workforce capability.
  • Engage in community development initiatives that strengthen service responses to dual diagnosis.
  • Support clients in navigating Monash Health and community services, ensuring coordinated and effective care.
  • Implement and support the recommendations from the Royal Commission into the Mental Health System across stakeholders.

This position will act as a Team Leader to the team. 

 

About You
To excel in this role, you will bring:

  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • A compassionate and non-judgmental approach when working with service users.
  • In-depth knowledge of the mental health and alcohol & drug sectors.
  • Experience in comprehensive mental health/AOD assessment and screening tools.
  • Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships, mentoring and supporting service providers in delivering integrated care.
  • A sound understanding of the Royal Commission’s recommendations for the mental health system.
  • Proficiency in delivering evidence-based interventions, education, and advocacy.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating training programs and professional education.

Qualifications, Registrations & Licences (italics indicate desirable)

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Psychology.
  • Current registration with the appropriate professional body (AHPRA, AASW).
  • Postgraduate qualification in mental health and/or alcohol & drug studies.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (highly desirable).
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence (essential for travel requirements).
