We’re looking for an experienced, values-driven Grade 2 Social Worker to join The Youth Acute Inpatient Unit (Unit 2), based within Dandenong Hospital Monash Health’s Mental Health Program. In this role, you’ll provide high-quality, client-centred social work services to young people experiencing acute mental health challenges through the following:

 

  • Conducting complex psychosocial assessments
  • Delivering targeted therapeutic interventions
  • Advocating for client rights
  • Coordinating discharge planning and community liaison
  • Providing clinical supervision and mentoring to junior staff and students

 

You’ll work collaboratively with a passionate multidisciplinary team, including medical, nursing, allied health, and lived experience professionals, while also building strong partnerships with key external stakeholders such as Child Protection, Housing Services, Centrelink, and Family Violence services. This is a fast-paced, rewarding position requiring flexibility, a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, and a passion for recovery-focused mental health practice.

 

Whilst the position is based at Dandenong Unit 2, travel may be required to other Monash Health sites. 

 

About Us

Unit 2 is a 25 bed inpatient unit for young people aged 16 to 25 years, and provides services to the Southern Metropolitan Mental Health Services. It is located in the Mental Health Building at Dandenong Hospital. It is a safe and supportive place for young people to work through their mental health, emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual wellbeing. Their physical needs are also met with the support of clinical, medical and nursing staff. Families and carers are also supported during a young person’s admission to Unit 2 with a range of services.

Qualification & licence requirements of the role include the following, with further information available within the supportive documentation below:

 

  • Bachelor of Social Work or Masters of Social Work Qualifying or equivalent
  • Accredited Social Worker and/or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker: As approved by the AASW
  • Drivers Licence
