About Us
The Southern Dual Diagnosis Services (SDDS) is a multidisciplinary team of health professions who support other mental health and alcohol and other drug services who have co-occurring mental health and substance use issues. This is achieved by working collaboratively with Public Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug sector agencies and Mental Health Community Support Services. SDDS provide support through the following:
- Primary Consultation in collaboration with the primary case manager/worker within a harm reduction framework and providing support as appropriate
- Secondary Consultation
- Training and Education for mental health, drug and alcohol and mental health community support service staff
- Opportunities to discuss and review individual cases or issues related to consumers with dual diagnosis/co-occurring issues
- Support to organisations to develop dual diagnosis capabilities
About the Role:
Join our team as a Team Leader / Senior Dual Diagnosis Clinician in a full time ongoing position as part of the Southern Dual Diagnosis Service (SDDS) at Monash Health. This role will work closely with the Alcohol and Other Drug Services of Monash Health as part of the Mental Health Program. The successful incumbent will be expected to provide capacity building support to services/consumers in order to improve health, wellbeing and inclusion through providing support, education, brief intervention and linkages to treatment and referral services as well as provide support to the Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol sector workforce across the Southern Metropolitan region of Melbourne. This role will will work closely with key stakeholders, including supportintg the Way Out Program at Monash and be based in Dandenong, however will require travel to other sites within Monash Health and the broader Southern Metropolitan Melbourne region.
Key accountabilities include:
- The team leader is expected to privde exper knowledge in the area of Dual Diagnosis with regards to the Mental health System and Drug and Alcohol Sectors.
- The incumbent will draw on knowledge in both of these sectors and support services to provide integrated care to consumers experiencing co-occurring conditions.
- The team leader will provide leadership and responsibility and undertake operational responsibilities under the guidance of the Community Service Manager and and will ensure that the team works with accordance of the principles of safe practice and high standards of professional conduct.
- Provision of harm reduction education and advocacy
- Development and Facilitation of training and education
- Undertake community engagement, development activities and tasks which support services working with consumers with a dual diagnosis
- Supports and assists clients to understand and navigate health and other community services within Monash Health and externally as appropriate for other stakeholders
- Supports the recommendations into the Royal Commission in regards to the Mental Health System and supporting this work across all stakeholders
About You
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- The ability to engage with service users in a warm, non-judgemental manner
- Knowledge of bothe the mental health system and drug and alcohol sectors
- Knowledege of comprehensive mental health/aod assessment and screening tools
- Experience with developing relationships with stakeholders and providing mentioring/networking opportunities to assist with developing skills to provide integrated care to consumers with a dual diagnosis
- A sound knowledge of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into the Mental Health System
- Provide best evidence based practice when providing brief interventions, education, communication and information provision
- Experience in developing and facilitating training and education
Qualifications/registrations/licences (italics indicate desirable):
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Psychology
- Current registration with the appropriate body (AHPRA, AASW)
- Post graduate qualification in related field (mental health and/or drug and alcohol studies)
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment
Other Position Requirements:
- Current Victorian Driver’s License
- Applicants who are new to Monash Health will be required to enter into an Employment Agreement before commencement
