About The Role

  • Applicants for Full Time or Part Time will be considered
  • The role will see you transporting Patients to and from the Operating Theatre Suite.
  • You will be working with a dedicated group of individuals, who pride themselves on Patient Care.
  • Assisting operating theatre staff by ensuring safe and prompt transportation of Patients to and from Theatre

Theatre Attendants Responsibilities

An integral part of the operating theatre team, providing support to the Medical and Nursing staff to ensure positive patient outcomes are achieved.  

Whilst ensuring patient safety, the theatre technician to assist and support the team by ensuring all necessary equipment is available and operational, and patients are safely prepared and positioned for surgery.

The Theatre Attendant provides efficient, high quality care in a patient focused environment through effective and committed teamwork.

The Theatre Attendant role varies depending on level of competency and skill set (as per Grade); but is responsible for:

  • Patient transport to, from and within the theatre complex
  • Patient transfers to and from patient bed where required
  • Cleaning and maintenance of equipment in accordance with Monash Health and manufacturers guidelines
  • Providing safe patient care inclusive of patient transport, patient positioning, patient transfer, patient securing and other patient related duties under the direction of the team
  • Competently use theatre equipment; ensuring key safety processes
  • Understand the risks associated with the theatre equipment and theatre environment and deploy safety measures to mitigate and identify risks
  • Understand and utilise Infection Control measures in accordance with Monash Health Policy
  • Patient Specimen handling and transport
  • Collecting equipment from Wards
  • Collecting of and disposing new and used Linen
  • Collecting Blood Gases
  • Collection of Blood Products
  • Restocking Theatre consumables
  • Other Theatre Attendant duties as directed by in charge nurse.
  • The Theatre Attendant is responsible for the reduction of waste in line with their role and scope of practice aligning to the values of the organisation.

You must be able to:

  • Participate and co-operate in consultative processes to improve health and safety.
  • Observe safe working practices and as far as you are able, protect your own and others’ health and safety.
  • Manage employee through effective recruitment, retention recognition and development strategies, ensure there are effective consultation and communication processes in place.
  • Monitor the operations and continuous improvement of the Monash Health Occupational Health and Safety Management System within the area of responsibility and provide a safe and positive workplace
  • Provide leadership and support for direct reports, appraise their performance, ensure employee complete required training and are provided with professional training and development opportunities.
  • Complete all necessary personal training and professional development requirements.
  • Participate in annual performance development discussions with your manager and complete all mandatory training and compliance activity.

We are seeking a friendly, courteous, enthusiastic and motivated individual with passion for Patient care and capable of working in a busy team environment.

Qualifications/registrations/licences:

  • Cert III in Health Service Assistance (Operating Technical Support) or equivalent (Grades 1-2) desireable

Technical skills/knowledge/experience

Grade 1

  • Performs work of a general nature (transport, cleaning, patient positioning, equipment upkeep) 
  • No formal qualification required 
  • Less than 12 months experience 

Other position requirements:

  • As we support a culture of safety through employee immunisation, there must be documentation provided confirming completed immunisation on employment at Monash Health. Applicants who are new to Monash Health must provide evidence of immunisation before they can receive an offer of employment.
  • Current and satisfactory Police Check (must also comply with Aged Care Act 1997 Accountability Amendment Principles 2012 if working in Aged Care setting)
  • Current and satisfactory Working with Children Check (employee status).
  • Applicants who are new to Monash Health will be required to enter into an Employment Agreement before commencement
