Our Journey – South1 GEM

South 1 is a 20 bed Subacute GEM Ward providing care and assistance with recovery for a diverse range of patients who have been in hospital and require complex multidisciplinary interventions.

We pride ourselves on the delivery of high-quality care through a multidisciplinary approach and strive for positive outcomes and experiences for our patients and staff. This is a fast-paced work environment that provides opportunities and challenges for staff to ensure work satisfaction and enjoyment.

We currently have an Associate Nurse Manager (ANM) position available on South1 in a Part Time Ongoing capacity (40 hours per fortnight).

A day in the life

In this leadership role, you will work closely with the Nurse Manager to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the ward. No two days will be the same as you work within an established, friendly and supportive team environment, working closely together to care for patients along with providing opportunities for staff development and growth in areas that staff are passionate about.

What you bring

With broad experience as a Registered Nurse, you understand the importance of patient centred care. You have a genuine interest in working and interacting with our diverse patient group, supporting them with daily functions.  At times, this patient cohort can demonstrate challenging behaviours.

Your strong clinical skills will be regularly demonstrated as you undertake complex discharge planning, complex wounds and address continence and clinical concerns to see that all patients are treated with dignity and respect whilst in our care. You bring genuine passion and interest to this unique environment.

With excellent communication and negotiation skills, you have the resilience to manage your responsibilities across a variable unit as part of a devoted team. While you have had some exposure to Subacute Services, experience in a dedicated GEM/Rehabilitation unit is not mandatory. At the heart of your practice is the patient and providing patient centred care always. You have a ‘Lead by example’ attitude, are proactive and have exceptional time management and critical analysis skills.

You will also demonstrate:

  • experience working as an Associate Nurse Manager or in charge, essential
  • Inspire individuals and groups to achieve personal, organisational and service professional goals
  • Promote a unit culture of optimism, innovation, encouragement, learning and creativity
  • Demonstrate a commitment to organisational driven change
  • Participate in developing others including orientation, preceptorship, mentoring and succession planning
  • Clearly communicate clinical and behavioural expectations to staff
  • Work collaboratively to support the Nurse Manager to provide effective, visible leadership and supervision across the team.

In Return

We will provide a dynamic environment that is dedicated to safe best practice and passionate patient advocacy. You will be challenged, with opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills in this field of nursing.

Ours is a connected team with strong shared values and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Ours is also a highly skilled, collaborative and welcoming multidisciplinary team where the only limit in your career is you.

  • Access to Monash Health in-house learning portals to further expand your clinical skills and knowledge base
  • Avenues to further develop your leadership and project management skills
  • Mentorship and career guidance
  • Support to attend relevant forums and conferences
  • A supportive learning environment, should you wish to undertake postgraduate studies
