The Movement Disorders Program at Monash Health is a world class service for people with Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders that provides care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. We actively engage clinicians and patients in international clinical trials giving patients the opportunity to access new medications.

A Day in the Life: 

The Nurse Consultant is not only an integral member of the Movement Disorders Clinic, but also part of an innovative, multidisciplinary team.  We welcome fresh ideas and approaches and provide high quality evidenced based care to patients in one of Melbourne's fastest growing regions. 

In this role you will work with one of the largest specialist movement disorders teams in Victoria, collaborating and learning from a variety of health professionals including neurologists, geriatricians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, social workers, researchers, neuropsychologists and dieticians, in a supportive and friendly environment.  

You will also work alongside our highly skilled and supportive medical team and allied health assessment therapists as part of the weekly Movement Disorders Medical Clinic providing leadership, triaging clinical urgency and completing specialised assessments regarding client’s response to treatment.  

This role is a part time, ongoing position with requirement to work onsite. 

 

About you: 

You are an experienced, talented and enthusiastic Community Nurse Consultant with research experience. You provide best practice care, education and support to clients and their care givers specific to their movement disorders condition, work in collaboration with the broader movement disorders clinic allied health team and work closely with the research team in providing best care in clinical trials. To be successful in this role and make an impact, you will bring: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and clinical skills of Parkinson’s disease treatments and the complex interaction of medication for this client group.  

  • Ambition to further your clinical and research knowledge and expertise in Parkinson’s and related conditions.  

  • Ability to supervise junior staff and contribute to peer-based learning. 

  • Willingness to participate in quality and research initiatives within the nursing team and broader movement disorders clinic and research unit. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of research ethics, protocols and procedures. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to best practice care.  

  • A proactive and team player attitude.  

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Enthusiasm for working in a specialised multidisciplinary team. 

  • Strong project management and organisational skills with an ability to manage a busy clinical and research caseload autonomously. 

 

What you need: 

  • Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA.  

  • Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in acute based nursing. 

  • Demonstrated experience in the care of persons with a Movement Disorder or progressive neurological conditions. 

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.  

  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
