About the Role

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced safety professional to lead the organisation's Safety Management System, governanace and education that underpin safety performance across one of Victoria’s most complex health services.

About You

You are motivated by the opportunity to work collaboratively with operational colleagues “on the ground” to help ensure that our safety systems and mechanisms firmly underpin both our duty of care obligations and Board governance requirements, and also meet frontline requirements.

Bringing significant safety systems experience in large, complex organisations, you can demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of audit, assurance and risk as they relate to safety.  You readily build effective, sustained working relationships and your written communication skills enable you to prepare accurate, concise reports up to and including executive level.  Further, you enjoy leading a team to build capability and realise its full potential.

You will also bring something unique, a genuine commitment to simplification. Our frontline staff are busy, skilled and saturated with information. Your job is to make safety easy to do, meaningful and not hard to navigate. That means stripping complexity from processes, cutting document burden, and designing communications that people act on rather than file away.

What you need:

  • Extensive experience designing, implementing and maintaining robust safety management systems in large, complex organisations

  • Proven ability to translate safety data into meaningful insights and deliver education that drives frontline behaviour change

  • Strong knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation, including statutory reporting

  • Demonstrated experience in audit, assurance, and governance reporting

  • Experience leading TNA processes, and education program design

  • Proven people leadership, balancing business-as-usual and project delivery

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, strong communication skills and operational focus

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety (or similar)

  • Formal training/certification in OHS management systems

  • Current driver’s licence

Experience in a healthcare, emergency services, aged care or other high risk, regulated environment is desirable.
