About the Role

This position is part time permanent Monday to Friday up to 4 days a week (32 hours a week, 64 hours a fortnight) open to Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs), Grade 2 Social Workers or Grade 2 Occupational Therapists

The Older Adult Mental Health Triage provides high quality information, triage screening and navigation services to people seeking to access Older Adult Mental Health Services. Triage clinicians have two roles: 

  • mobilise referrals to Older Adult Mental Health Services to generate an appropriate response from the relevant community team in accordance with assessed risk and urgency. 
  • bed management for the Older Adult Mental Health inpatient units and play a key role in coordinating and facilitating admissions from community to inpatient setting including where required coordinating admissions to out of area beds for current patients of the service. 

The Triage Clinician is expected to provide expert knowledge within their position. As a clinical role the incumbent will draw on knowledge in mental health legislation and policy in order to achieve service expectations and positive outcomes for consumers. 

 

About You

As the Triage Clinician, you will utilise your understanding of mental health legislation and policy to meet service expectations and provide comprehensive assessments that achieve positive outcomes for consumers. You must either be a qualified Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker. You thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and enjoy the challenge of making quick, clinically sound decisions. You are confident and considerate when coordinating admissions into inpatient settings. 

What You Need: 

  • Relevant Qualification (aligned to position description linked below) 
  • Demonstrated experience preferably in community mental health or equivalent 
  • Working with older adults (65+) is highly desirable 
  • Previous experience in a Triage setting or equivalent desirable 
  • Current AHPRA registration (Nurses and OT only)
