About the Role
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST, GRADE 3 | MOBILE SUPPORT & TREATMENT TEAM | 0.8 EFT, ONGOING
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Grade 3 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver specialist occupational therapy services within a community mental health setting while supporting consumers with complex mental health and psychosocial needs.
Working within a recovery-oriented framework, you will provide comprehensive assessments, occupation-based interventions, and intensive case management support to consumers experiencing significant functional challenges. You will work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, and key stakeholders to facilitate recovery, promote independence, and support successful community living.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, formulation, and recovery-focused interventions.
- Supporting consumers in their homes and community settings through assertive outreach and intensive case management.
- Facilitating skill development in daily living, community participation, self-management, and meaningful occupations.
- Completing functional, cognitive, sensory, and environmental assessments to inform treatment planning and recovery goals.
- Conducting Functional Capacity Assessments and contributing to NDIS access, planning, and review processes.
- Collaborating with consumers, families, carers, and community stakeholders to support recovery and successful community living.
- Facilitating therapeutic group programs and contributing to service development initiatives.
- Providing clinical supervision, support, and guidance to Occupational Therapy students and junior staff.
About the Mobile Support Team
The Clayton Mobile Support & Treatment Team (MSTT) is part of a leading community mental health service delivering intensive, recovery-oriented care to adults experiencing complex mental health and psychosocial challenges. Our multidisciplinary team includes Occupational Therapists, Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Psychiatrists, Medical Officers, Peer Workers, and Family/Carer Workers who work collaboratively to support consumers in achieving their recovery goals.
Operating seven days a week, MSTT provides assertive outreach and community-based treatment across clinic, home, and community settings. We are committed to delivering person-centred, evidence-based care that promotes recovery, independence, community participation, and meaningful engagement in everyday life.
As part of our service, Occupational Therapists play a vital role in supporting consumers to develop skills, build confidence, strengthen daily living abilities, and reconnect with meaningful occupations that enhance health and wellbeing.
About You
You are an experienced Occupational Therapist with a passion for community mental health and a commitment to recovery-oriented practice. You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment and are confident working with consumers experiencing complex mental health and psychosocial challenges. To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Demonstrated experience working with adults experiencing severe and persistent mental illness within community, inpatient, or rehabilitation settings.
- Strong skills in occupational therapy assessment, formulation, intervention planning, and functional rehabilitation.
- Experience conducting Functional Capacity Assessments and developing reports to support NDIS applications, reviews, or psychosocial disability supports.
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approaches to care.
- Well-developed risk assessment, clinical reasoning, and case management skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with families, carers, support services, and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of community support systems, including NDIS, My Aged Care, and other community-based services.
Previous experience supervising students, graduates, or junior staff and facilitating therapeutic groups will be highly regarded.
