Embark on a rewarding neonatal nursing career within a supportive, highly skilled team where your expertise genuinely makes a difference to babies and their families.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse or midwife to join the Special Care Nursery at Sandringham Hospital. You will work within a motivated multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality, family-centred care to newborns requiring special or ongoing neonatal support.

This role requires a nurse who is able to work autonomously, communicate effectively with families and the healthcare team, and manage competing priorities in a dynamic clinical environment. Discharge coordination is a key component of the role, with a strong focus on care planning, parent education, and facilitating safe, timely discharge to support family reunification.

Our unit operates under a Family Centred Care model, partnering with parents to ensure the best possible outcomes for babies and families.

About Us

The Special Care Nursery at Sandringham Hospital is an 8-bed Level 3 Nursery providing ongoing neonatal care, including short-term CPAP support. We care for unwell babies from our busy birth unit and maternity ward, as well as step-down neonates from tertiary NICUs.

We are proud members of the Monash Newborn network, working collaboratively across sites to deliver high-quality neonatal care and support babies to receive care as close to home as possible.

About You

You are a committed and compassionate nurse with a genuine interest in neonatal and family-centred care. You value teamwork, understand the importance of each role within the multidisciplinary team, and are motivated to continually develop your clinical knowledge and skills.

You will bring:

  • A commitment to safe, evidence-based, and family-centred care
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Enthusiasm for learning, quality improvement, and professional development
  • Willingness to be accountable for and manage designated clinical or quality portfolio
  • A desire to develop your neonatal nursing practice within a supportive environment

Essential Criteria

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to practise independently within scope
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality, safe clinical practice

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience in neonatal, paediatric, or midwifery nursing
  • Interest in developing neonatal clinical expertise within a Special Care Nursery
